We sat there for a long time just looking at each other and I could see the exhaustion in his face, the weight of everything we'd learned in the past few days pressing down on him, and I felt it too. The murder and the obsession and the contracts and the DNA scare and everything else piling up until it felt like we were drowning in it.
"Can we just stop?" I said.
"Stop what?" He asked, facing me.
"All of this, for tonight, just stop." I reached for his hand. "We've been running from one thing to the next for days without breathing and I'm tired, Adrian, I'm so tired and I think you are too."
