For the second time, I woke up to light streaming through my window, with a pounding headache. It looked to be just past noon. My back ached, and I tried to roll over, only to find myself restricted. I slowly opened my eyes to find my mate fast asleep next to me. His arm was wrapped around my waist, pinning me down. He was so angelic when sleeping. A small smile played on his lips. His hair had fallen in his face, covering half his face. I gently brushed it behind his ear, and smiled at him. I felt so lucky.

The funeral home was less than a three-hour drive from the village. But Chloe and I waited for a full six hours. Joel and Michael never showed up. After the funeral, Chloe was devastated. She cried every day till her eyes were constantly red and swollen. I wasn't doing much better. Night after night, I woke up from nightmares, and even sleeping pills couldn't bring me any peace. Meanwhile, Rachel was posting nonstop on Instagram. In one video, Joel and Michael were shirtless, lounging by the window, and smiling at her.

With shaking hands, I turned off the laptop and went to pack up my things. Only then did I realize that I'd bought most of my stuff in pairs. Only I used them, though; Harold never used the items I'd prepared for him. He was obviously cold to me, but I'd always ignored those subtle signs. I tossed all the matching couple stuff into the bin and packed everything else before texting my best friend, Jane Ramsey. "Do you want to meet up tonight?" I would be heading to the mountains as part of an aid group later, so I wouldn't get to see her for a long time. I decided that I should say goodbye to her properly.

Tristan's POV In the end, Willa signed the divorce agreement and walked out of the ward in silence. I was still too weary from having just woken up, and I barely managed a couple of sentences with Willa before drowsiness washed over me again. When I finally opened my eyes again, I realized that evening had settled in. Delilah walked into the ward with the warm chicken noodle soup and noticed the divorce agreement with both signatures. She merely set the container down and opened it, her eyes narrowing slightly as she said, "You woke up just in time, Tristan. I just made this, so please have some."

We just stared at one another for the longest time before I eventually broke the silence by leaning over and placing a gentle kiss against her lips, she gasped at the contact as her eyes closed. “How did you sleep?” I whispered against her soft lips. Her dark hair hung down in waves down the side of her face, “Like shit,” She finally answered as she opened her eyes to look at me, “You?” smirking I shook my head, “I couldn’t sleep, too much going on right now and once we broadcast the message we plan to convey to the world it’s going to be total anarchy. I wish I could guarantee that we will be able to save humanity, but I can’t, all we can do is tell them the truth of what’s about to happen,

But it’s too tempting to let go. “Don’t sleep on me. Please… think about the people waiting for you back home.” Hands grip my shoulders, shaking me, begging me to stay. But i just can’t seem to open my lids. “Open your eyes!!” “It’s too late, asshole.” And the world slips into soft, peaceful darkness.

Melissa is trying to wake up her daughter Rosalia from her sleep, as it’s already morning. She is pissed at her daughter, who keeps annoying her with her sleep, as usual. Once she sleeps, there is no sign of her waking up. When she sleeps, she sleeps as if the world has ended and sleeping is the best thing for herself. “Dumb Rosa! Your phone has been buzzing for several minutes! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!” She keeps yelling at her but gets no response from her. Her snores like a donkey making her sigh in disappointment. “You have to go to work, your highness!”

The lies. It was all too much. But the moment my head touched the pillow, the world slipped away. And I sank into the darkness of a quiet, dreamless sleep.
