“You will not cage her. And you will not speak of her like she’s something less than us.” My voice wavered, just a fraction. It was enough. I felt it. So did they. Emotion cracked through the Alpha mask, ugly and inconvenient and real. “Because whether you like it or not,” I finished, jaw tight, “she’s already part of what comes next.” And I stood there, between fire and fear, knowing there was no walking this back. Silence slammed down like a blade. It wasn’t the respectful kind. It was the calculating kind, the kind where minds started rearranging alliances and weighing consequences faster than heartbeats. I felt it immediately, the shift in the air, politics sharpening their teeth.

His wolf was clawing at him, growling at his lack of action, at not claiming what was theirs. “My name is Tasha. And yes, I do feel that same pull. Yes, the urges are a pain in the ass. Watching as the people went about their day. "Alpha." Someone greeted, passing her by with fire hood in their hands "Alpha, that ground hog is back, eating up all our produce again." Someone else said, coming up to her. When Hayley spoke, her voice was not her own. "I told you to set those traps. Maybe if you had listened to me, the one that is your Alpha. We wouldn't have this problem still. Go to Aden for advice, since he is the one you always listen to."

"We’ve come here to propose a united front, Ava. The recent battles have shown us the strength you possess, and the leadership you offer. But we need to be more than just a collection of territories fighting our own battles. We need to unite under a single banner." Alpha Agger, the oldest and most seasoned of the three, with a deep, gravelly voice that commanded respect, leaned forward. "And that banner should be yours, Ava. We propose to make you the Alpha of Alphas. A leader among leaders, to guide us in these times of strife."

Being with this Alpha must be ten times better than being stuck with Gamma Price. I have to make this work. No matter what.

Shaba says. Adelaide instantly looks at the monitor. A few of her warriors were dead and a few were kneeling in front Shaba. “Quite a few of them don’t agree with Alpha Adelaide running things, so they agreed to help me as long as I eradicate their new Alpha.” “You bitch!” Adelaide says. “You must be Adelaide. Well Alpha, this nightmare can end. All you have to do is run. Run away. I will even let you take any who no longer wish to stay with you.” Shaba tells her.

** Paige’s POV ** I feel something stirring in my chest that’s not nerves or self-doubt; it’s purpose. “I want to be there,” I say. All four heads turn toward me. Ryder frowns, worry creasing his brow. “Paige…” “I’m serious,” I say, stepping closer. “I want to be part of the meeting.” Callen exhales sharply. “Babe, this isn’t just a discussion. These are Alphas. Old-school ones that don’t interact with humans or follow any of their social constructs. They don’t even let their Lunas sit in on council unless it’s to pour tea.”

Shaking my head, I open my eyes and answer him flatly, “Honestly, I don’t know where I was going, but to me it seemed that I was intruding, and I didn’t want to bother you any longer.” “Woman. What on earth are you talking about? She is my beta. One of my second in command. I was merely calming her and assuring her that everything would be alright.” He says in a louder tone than he should have because now everyone is staring at us. When the doctor walks up to us, he pats Alexander on the back and asks quietly, “Is everything alright here, Alpha?”

Was it to gain power or protection? Nonetheless, we prevail moving on to the second one. Who was not much of a hustle? Making it to the third one who was quite some trouble himself. He welcomed us with dozen attacks and even tried to hold his people as hostages so that we would stop. Not that I cared much about his pack but how could he be an Alpha when he sacrifices the pack members to save his petty life? I had never seen this kind of shameful idiot in my life. His being difficult didn't mean that it was impossible for him to fall into our traps.

The older man's voice thinks for a long moment before answering. "I can't be entirely sure unless I know if he has the shifter genes." Then he takes a beat. "If he's like us, then yes. There might be a threat to his life. If not, then Jean's life is at stake because, after Michael, he's the only man appropriate to lead our pack. He could be the next alpha if Neville obviously lacks his superior genes." The younger male voice is back. "But what about Jean's son? Wouldn't he be threatened since you can't be so sure of Neville's genes?"
