Then it was her turn. She stepped closer, holding out a pendant carved from bone. The image of a wolf howling at the moon was etched into its surface, the details so fine it almost seemed alive.
“This pendant,” Laurel said, fastening it around my neck, “is a reminder of the Alpha you are. Strong, loyal, and always guided by the moon.”
I nodded, my throat tightening as I murmured my thanks. The ache in my chest had grown heavier, making it hard to breathe, let alone think, but I hid it as best I could.
