I hear shouting behind us and turn to look. I see flashes of black and white feathers in the trees and curse loudly. A sudden flash of fire between my shoulders makes me scream and loosen my grip. I fall off Daniel’s back and land hard on the ground. I gasp, tears rolling down my cheeks. I grit my teeth as I hear the Council guards moving closer. “Ana what are you doing?” Diana yells as I start pushing myself to my feet. I see her slow from the corner of my eye. “I’m going to take care of this,” I tell her, fighting through the pain.

I clenched my fists. No. I forced myself to turn away and grabbed the book I’d come for. Before I could sit back down, someone slid into the chair beside me. “Hey, Percy” a bright voice said. It was Aisha. She smiled at me. Her eyes sparkled. She leaned closer than necessary and placed a hand lightly on my arm. “I’ve been meaning to talk to you” she said. I nodded absently. “Yeah” She laughed softly. “You’re always so serious. It’s kind of cute”

Aisha pretended to kneel and make a gesture with her hand saying sorry and laughing at the same time. We started devouring the meal because it was so delicious. “Queeneth, maybe you’ll find your mate now that you've gotten your wolf.” “Maybe,” I said, bowing my head. I don't like talking about mates with Aisha because I know where she’ll be landing, her landing point is already known. It's indeed exactly what I want but I don't like talking about it because there's a way it makes me feel. “Maybe, it will be Reuben.” she finally said.

Was that the reason why I was backing out? I didn’t even understand what the fuck was going on with me. She bit her lower lip and looked out the window as the car sped along. I didn't care for Aisha; my thoughts were filled with Ella. But why was my mate a human and not a dragon?
