She dropped her bag to the floor and pulled out a stack of worn books, their covers frayed and stitched by hand. “But we didn’t come back empty-handed,” she said quickly, kneeling in front of me. “Look at these.” She placed them in my hands one after another. The pages were yellowed, the edges rough, filled with cramped handwriting and strange symbols. Some were notes on powerful witches from centuries ago. Others were diagrams of spell circles I had never seen before. There were markings about rare bloodlines, abilities that appeared only once in a generation, and rituals that felt both brilliant and dangerous.

“What is it?” “A translation of the Aeternum Codex,” she said. “It’s one of the oldest spellbooks recorded by the first time-mages. It was a spell to find things or places. According to the journal, if we recite the spell three times while thinking about the object or place the book will show the vision of the location.

I wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth and I started getting stuck into the room as soon as the door closed. I needed to make it look like I had cleaned so I started stacking up the books and everything like that but I was paying really close attention to the names of the books. Until I came across a really ancient book of spells and witchcraft. When I picked the book up I felt the energy flowing out of it, and I looked around to make sure that the guard was still outside the closed door. I knew that this was the book that I needed. So I started looking through it and finding a whole heap of different spells that I knew would be helpful in this situation.

“What kind of spell?” “I want to see who was here. It’s a divining spell. I have to be very specific about what I want and then it will show me. In this case, I’m going to ask it to show me who was here. It’s a bit more complicated than that, but that’s the gist.” She says, moving to the center of the room.

A small book, which shouldn’t be more than two hundred pages, was in his hand. I collected the book from him. The covering was a deep crimson hue, reminiscent of a blood moon casting its eerie glow. And on the hardcover were swirling shadows hinting at hidden magic, and the book of spells was boldly written on it. A small smile found its way to my face. I wasn’t happy because Tristan can also use the spell, but I was happy because I could get to know more about the spells I'm using, which I'm sure would be in this book.
