“Maerilee, if you are meant to have four Ones, you’re still missing two.” The room falls silent once more, the weight of his words hanging heavily in the air. My relief evaporates, replaced by a gnawing sense of unease. I hadn’t even considered that possibility, that there might be more to this than just Akin and River. I had not expected our first day as a married couple to turn out in such a manner. The door swung open all of a sudden. I froze. I felt sad, but also hopeful. I decided that I would forgive Jason if he came back with some medication to treat my scalding. Even if he did not bring any medication, I would still listen to his explanation once he returned. When I looked up, I saw two drunken men staggering in. My heart was in my throat. One of the men said, "I knew something must be going on when a room door is open and the place just reeks of sweat. Look at all those love marks on your body. Why don't you keep me company and I'll pay you whatever amount you want?"

The heard a voice yell rushing into their middle. They all quickly carried out the instruction. "What's the meaning of this? What's all this fuss?" He yelled "Sir...I..." "Shut the hell up and come with me now!" He said and started walking away, they all scurried up to their feet and ran after him.

"It doesn't matter anyways. I have another homework for you" I sighed. But louder than intended. "Oh, are you tired? Ugh, ugly Betty." she grabbed a handful of my hair, tugging at it. "Just remember who you are and where you stand in this school." Everyone else in the class had turned to watch. Some had their phones out and were recording. "YOU. ARE. A. FUCKING. CHARITY. CASE" she said drawing out the words more than necessary.

They then pulled me away from the door and pushed me farther into the living room. "Drive safe, Mr. and Mrs. Sallow!" Adrian called out to them, waving Mom goodbye. "What matters? What matters are you attending to?" I was still shocked and couldn't snap out of my daze just yet. I stared at Mom's sly smile in confusion. It was already getting dark out. What matters could there be for them to attend to so late in the day? "Don't bother about us. Hurry up and get dinner! Everything's getting cold at this point!"

Compared to my past life, I now knew how to cherish what I had. Cara’s eyes filled with tears as she choked out, “You lied to me, didn’t you? You told me you didn’t like kids… You said I was the only one you’d ever love.”

I come back and situate myself, legs tucked in and play the movie. I watched till the part where Mei-lei and four towns started to sing, "nobody like you" and I couldn't help the tears that threatened to flow as I listened to the lyrics. When they sang the part that said, "I'm never gonna let you cry, oh cry, oh cry. I'm always gonna be your ride, or die, or die," the water works started. With each words, tears flowed as I put a spoonful of ice cream in my mouth, blubbering the lyrics.
