I frowned. Was I mistaken? No… I heard it. I looked around again, but still found nothing. I let out a slow breath. Maybe it was something I stepped on earlier… I didn’t think too much about it and continued forward. My only goal—move forward. As long as I keep going, I’ll get out. My steps became faster. I didn’t stop anymore. *** The night had fully fallen. The air turned cold. Even my feet felt numb. This was the time when wild creatures moved.

I fixed my eyes ahead and pressed the accelerator. A new journey had begun.

I was thinking fast. My voice dropped lower, sharp as a blade. “Now we proceed to the next plan.”

“Then let’s move.” With renewed urgency, we pushed forward, deeper into the unknown.

And that was all it took. I lifted my chin and stepped forward. “Lead the way.”

All of it. Still moving in the right direction.

And I start walking. Not back. Forward.

My mind was already plotting the next move. I was just getting started.

I shoved my hands into my coat pockets and picked up my pace. Not away from anything. I told myself that firmly. One step after another. Forward. Always forward. But even as I walked, I knew there was a difference between moving forward and pretending not to glance back.

I said softly, though my thoughts were racing faster than my words, “I was just...moving forward,” He chuckled and took a step forward, “Well, how about you tell me about your choice to move forward over dinner?”
