Dimas and Aris were busy fishing on the pier, discussing trivial but pleasant things. Maya and I sat in beach chairs, watching Lina guide Bima as he built a sandcastle. The sun began to set, painting the sky with gradients of orange, purple, and gold—a view just as beautiful as the day they were first reunited. "Do you remember what you wrote in that diary?" Lina asked, suddenly walking over to us. Maya smiled thinly. "Every word." "You wrote that you hoped one day I would live in a world where I didn't have to be afraid of anyone," Lina said. I watch patiently as the mascara of pure light begins to cast a fire of warmth above in stream like ribbons, my head raising along with the orange glow dancing over me like a toasted blanket. The sun soon blooms on the horizon, rising above the peaks of the tree’s while its golden petals stretch outwards into the rich fleeting blue of the departing night just above. I gaze towards the light stretching across the sky far and wide, inhaling slowly as I try to open my mind to the promise of a new day, embracing the rising sun that chases away the demons of the night. Maybe telling everyone about Aubrey won't go as bad as I think it will…
