He decided to take a walk to see Sophie, that way he won’t have to drink. Lance got off the bed and walked to the door that connected the house to his chamber, he hasn’t been there in a long time. “I should go back and sleep,” He tried to stop himself but, in the end, he opened the door and closed it behind him. He took a short walk and came to the living room, of course, she would be asleep. It was way past ten pm already. He wanted to leave but the door to one of the rooms opened and she stood there in surprise, she was wearing a rather revealing nightie and he couldn’t take his eyes off her.

After Amelia left the nursery, Andrew turned off the lights in the room, leaving only a dim night light. He placed Asher in the small bed and picked up a bedtime storybook. "What story does Asher want to hear? 'The Adventures in the Candy House'?" Andrew asked. Asher shook his little head, sitting up from the small bed. His tiny hands wandered through the bookshelf on the bedside table, finally pulling out a book, "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves," handing it to Andrew. "Tell this one." Andrew opened the children's storybook and started reading.

The house was quiet; the nanny had already finished and left, leaving just me and the children. Later that evening, after dinner, I sat with the kids in their room. I picked up one of their storybooks. “Storytime!” Caleb clapped his hands, bouncing on the bed. “Alright, let’s see what we have tonight…” I opened the book. The pages showed colorful drawings of a family of three camping outside under the stars. I cleared my throat and began to read:

Chapter 66: On the Road to the Unknown The fire was low, crackling quietly in the still night. The weight of exhaustion lay against my bones, but sleep just wouldn’t. Christian nodded yes and I grabbed and tickled him until he couldn’t laugh anymore. “Okay let’s see what this story is about.” I took the book and read to him while he lay next to Adara and held her hand. His eyes closed at the fourth paragraph and I read two more to make sure he was sleeping. We kissed him goodnight on his forehead and left the night light on. Some nights he was afraid of the dark and other nights it didn’t bother him at all. I wasn’t worried. It was normal for kids to be afraid of the dark. Especially if they saw a dead woman in it talking to them.
