A silence louder than the train stretched among us, and I felt like I had pushed a bit too far, until my Aunt broke the silence.
“We plan to do that, “ she began, then looked around the table like she wanted confirmation before continuing, “None of them or you are responsible for what others have done.”
What she said is true. I've met the brothers, despite our business deal, and spoken briefly to their grandmother. They seem like friendly people, though they have greedy people around them.
Pa's voice pulls me out of my daze. “We will make things right in due time.”
Nodding in agreement, Mom said, “ Yes.” She looked down at her hands on her lap. “ I wish I knew what happened to my daughter.”
