I tap my pen against the paper. Tap. Tap. Tap. It takes me a second to realize I am matching the rhythm of the wind. I stop immediately, fingers tightening around the pen like it has betrayed me. I force myself to breathe slower. In through my nose. Out through my mouth. Without Aurora, my focus sharpens too much. Every sound matters. Every flicker of shadow pulls my attention. My brain does not rest. It inventories. Arthur is the head of the rebels.

They feel like information—useful, imperfect, alive. I hadn’t realized how heavy inevitability was until it left. — Arthur grows quieter. Not withdrawn. Not sad. Settled. He hums now when he works—soft, tuneless sounds that surprise him as much as they do me. He keeps tools in his pockets instead of weapons. The moment Matthew’s eyes landed on the first picture, his jaw tightened. His hand clenched around the laptop.

It doesnt take long for me to see the hanger and the trails of cars waiting there, i say nothing until the car is parked and then Arthur turns to me. “Wait here.” He said and i waited, watching as he stepped out and walk to my side. He opened the door for me and i climbed out. A bald man stood waiting for us with his lips stretched in a smile as we approched him. “Arthur King, I should’ve known your call involved a woman.” he said and i wondered what he meant by that. The mans attention turned to me and with the same warm smile he extended his hands out to me. “The name is Graham, I am Arthur’s favorite person in the world.” he said with a fresh humor in his tone.
