Lena The musty smell of ancient books and crackling fire enveloped me as I sat across from Hunter in his vast library. My shoulders ached from pouring over dusty manuscripts for hours, yet I was no closer to uncovering the mysterious secrets of bonding between dragon and keeper. Hunter droned on about obscure rituals, deliberately speaking in vague generalities that revealed nothing of true import. I stifled a yawn, struggling to focus. This lesson was proving as fruitless as all the rest.

Those who don’t have immortality crave it and those who do have it, resent it. “Sophia! Get ready! You will be late!” A lady screamed, her voice reverberating through every wall in the house. “Arrrghhh! I can’t get any fucking reading done!” Sophia cussed under her breath. Sophia was an aspiring brunette writer in her late teens about to start college. She was a fit lady with shoulder-length hair, she had glasses on with an open book right in front of her. Her room was like the room of any teenager her age, except she had posters of famous gore movies and comics plastered across every corner on her walls, unlike the average teenagers that were all about boys.

I’m the only one allowed to have such power over her. The little hunter’s actions were a bit unexpected to be honest. According to reports, his interest lay somewhere else. Specifically, in a little delicate flower called Anna Braille. Yet, he’d been all over my wildcat. It was almost as if the hunter was trying to stake a claim on Joanne and warn me off. Judging by how she had lapped up every possessive action, it was obvious my wildcat would love nothing more. However, the hunter’s actions failed to ring true. There was a little too much force on his part. He was like a green actor rushing through the lines he’d crammed before he could forget.

For years, the world enjoyed the peace and harmony that the vampires had helped to bring about. But one night, the peace was shattered by a series of brutal attacks. The vampire hunters, led by Ava, were puzzled by the sudden surge in violence. The attacks bore the hallmarks of rogue vampires, but no one had seen any signs of their presence for years. As the attacks continued to escalate, Ava and her team realized that they were facing a new and dangerous threat. The rogue vampires had returned, and this time, they were more determined than ever to destroy everything that the vampires and the hunters had worked so hard to achieve.

As if knowing my attention was on him, he said silently, "This is the last time you lie to me." Swallowing, I shifted my gaze to the window. Moments dragged by before I rested my forehead on the pane, looking at the thick forests we drove past. Why did he even care anyway? I would have gotten even worse wounds from the torture he would've had his men inflict on me. Through the review mirror, I caught sight of the long line of cars behind us. The Hunt usually spanned a period of just two days. Two days of violently hunting down wild games. Natasha I ran my fingers along the spines on my favorite shelf on the bookshelf in the corner of my room. This shelf was where all of my romance novels sat waiting to take me to another world where I could explore all of my fantasies that I was too embarrassed to verbalize. I picked up a newer book, that I had bought, up on a whim. It’s synopsis boasted of a reverse harem shifter theme that had intrigued me from the jump. I put it in my bag to read by the fountain in the middle of town later that day.
