Alexander By the time we have returned to Castle Black, the autumn winds were in full swing. September had always been a temperamental month. Moving so quickly from summer to fall in the blink of an eye. The warmth of the sun was quickly disappearing, replaced with gusts that brought the leaves swirling from the skies, and littering the floor, blanketing them in a patchwork of colours. As we neared the turreted castle, the feeling of foreboding was beginning to settle in.

Lucian's POV Autumn arrives in the third week of September. Not dramatically. Ironveil's autumn arrives the way Ironveil's spring arrived, without announcing itself, simply becoming true. One morning the light is different and the air carries something that was not in the August air, a coolness underneath the warmth that is not yet cold but is preparing to be. Selene notices it first. The autumn canopy had been letting go, the leaves preparing to fall, the light coming through in patches of amber and gold. The summer canopy was holding tight, the leaves at their maximum extension, the light filtered through layers of green.

Autumn had fully claimed the capital, draping the palace gardens in rich shades of amber, crimson, and gold. The air carried the crisp scent of ripening apples, falling leaves, and woodsmoke from the hearths that warmed the evenings. The city buzzed with the energy of the Harvest Festival — markets overflowing with fresh produce, lanterns strung between buildings, and the sound of laughter rising from every square.
