The Morelli mansion in autumn was a completely different place than the one she had visited in a delicate rose-scented evening of May. The old oaks that flanked the driveway had turned colors deep amber and copper-rust and most typically burnt gold of October doing its most intentional work and the scent of the place was woodsmoke and wet earth with something sweetly fermenting in the orchard beyond the east garden. The sky was the definite shade of blue that only comes after the first cold nights, a clean and vertiginous blue which invariably makes the objects under it look more like themselves.

The autumn months brought a chill to the air, the leaves turning brilliant shades of gold and crimson as they danced their final dance before falling to the earth. The palace was quiet, the bustle of summer fading into the gentle rhythm of the season. The servants moved through their duties with a peaceful efficiency, their voices low and their footsteps soft. The gardens were still beautiful, their colors muted but no less striking, a reminder of the beauty that could be found in every season of life.

AUTUMN'S POV I probably looked lost for the rest of the day as I racked my brain over the name thing. I was trying to think about the forms I’d filled out. The first trees to turn were the locusts followed by the elms.

KNOXX FELT a pang of disappointment creeping up his system at the scent of Autumn's hair. It was not the scent that he expected. Her hair smells like watermelon and jasmine combined. Although it's relaxing and he likes the scent of it, he's disappointed to know that she’s not the woman who ran away from him three years ago. He thought it was Autumn already, but she just didn’t want to tell him.
