**A Season of Growing** Autumn had settled gently over Port Haven, painting the trees in shades of amber and crimson. The sky was the definite shade of blue that only comes after the first cold nights, a clean and vertiginous blue which invariably makes the objects under it look more like themselves.

The noting of the difference was the proof of duration. He stopped under the largest of the oaks — the oak that had been, in October, the tree he had stood under to look up at the autumn canopy. He looked up at the summer canopy. The summer canopy was different from the autumn canopy — denser, greener, more complete. The autumn canopy had been letting go, the leaves preparing to fall, the light coming through in patches of amber and gold. The summer canopy was holding tight, the leaves at their maximum extension, the light filtered through layers of green.

The autumn months brought a chill to the air, the leaves turning brilliant shades of gold and crimson as they danced their final dance before falling to the earth. The palace was quiet, the bustle of summer fading into the gentle rhythm of the season. The servants moved through their duties with a peaceful efficiency, their voices low and their footsteps soft. The gardens were still beautiful, their colors muted but no less striking, a reminder of the beauty that could be found in every season of life.

AUTUMN'S POV I probably looked lost for the rest of the day as I racked my brain over the name thing. I was trying to think about the forms I’d filled out. I was pretty confident that I’d used the name Ava, so how did a certain Mr Cage know that my name is Autumn? Especially since the only other person/creature who knows my name is a wolf.
