The barrier surged into place, but the blade pierced through it. The red energy tore through the wind as if it were nothing.
“Impossible,” the Warden rasped.
The next moment came swiftly.
Theobald drove the blade into his chest, and the air wall collapsed.
The Warden fell back onto the cold stone, his vision narrowing to the red glow before him—Theobald, and the weapon that had ended him.
“You asked me what I am.” Theobald tilted his head, a spine-chilling smile on his face. “I’m Awakened.”
