It was an Ancient Dyson Shell—a hollowed-out planetoid designed to house something far larger than a million refugees. As the temperature dropped to $-40^\circ\text{C}$, the blue grass didn't die. It retracted into the soil, revealing thousands of hexagonal vents. A low, rhythmic thrumming began to shake the city of New Oakhaven. It was the sound of a planet "Waking Up." "It’s a Hibernation Cycle," Elara realized, standing on the observation deck. "We didn't land on a home. We landed on a Sleeper Ship."

“I will save him.” Lyria shook her head. “You will break long before he does.” Aria stiffened in fury. “Watch me.” For the first time, a real smile touched Lyria’s lips. “Good.” Because the ground suddenly shuddered—violently this time. A rumbling roar rolled through the expanse, shaking the runes, rattling Aria’s bones. “What’s happening?” she gasped. “Awakening,” Lyria whispered. “You feel it because he feels it.”
