I had work to do. I pulled out the first one. I rubbed off the dust and the name came into view. Hollow Brook. The pack I once thought I’d lead. I always thought my name would go down in this book. And unfortunately, now I was worried it would. Alongside a man who’s name would go down as a villain. The worst one we had seen in hundreds of years. I flipped the book open and skipped over some of the lineage as I already memorized that years ago. Once I saw the first page that talked about the history itself I started reading. And I didn’t stop until I heard a mindlink push through my head hours later.

Their story continues throughout the series. Their story began here but there's much more to the beginning of their story that wasn't mentioned in this book. Like we’ve done for years. "So what's with you and Aidan?" Jared asks between mouthfuls of chocolate mint ice cream. "What do you mean?" I reply after taking a long licked from my vanilla soft serve. "Well yesterday he came to ask me about your book. And it was weird because it was the 3rd one in the series. He didn't even know it was yours or your name. He just wanted a background check on it so I told him it was yours. He then Alpha commanded me to tell him everything about you. He said it was a clue. What's going on there?"

I wandered toward the fiction section, running my fingers along a row of spines, pulling one out here and there to read the back cover. “What’s this one?” Kade asked, picking up a battered paperback I’d set aside. “Oh, that one’s really good,” I said, my voice picking up speed the way it always did when I talked about books. “It’s about this girl who discovers she’s part of this ancient bloodline nobody knew existed, and she has to figure out who she can trust while everyone around her is lying to her. It’s got this whole slow burn romance woven through it too, and the writing is just…”

He survived, without a scratch, but he left behind a letter, a letter that screamed accusations at me. Nobody took my side. Even Liliana cut ties. I thought that was rock bottom.

Beta Carson disappeared in the opposite direction of Grace. It isn't long before Grace returns with a pile of books on the history of the kingdom, of all the kings that have passed the throne onto the next, and how each one ruled over the land. I was halfway through the first book when Carson returned with a very old thick book in his hands. He made his way over to where Grace was and whispered, "This isn't meant to be here. This is the book I was talking about... It is meant to be in the King of King's library..."

I didn’t understand it. We were spooon fed every information and everything matched the ones we learnt about even though different pack had their own version of the legend. I stepped away from the shelf, closing the distance between us until I was standing right behind her. The faint scent of the soap from my bathroom still lingered on her skin, fighting against the odor of the archives. It was the only thing in this room that felt real.
