She must have fallen asleep writing. She could see the sunlight streaming in through the window. Had she slept like that all night? Caitlin looked up and saw a pretty girl, maybe 17, standing over her, less than a foot away, looking down. She was struck by the girl’s beauty, and her presence. Her skin was a very pale shade of translucent white, her hair was a light brown, and her eyes, large and shining, were a shade of blue. The girl was smiling wide, and her entire demeanor exuded a feeling of happiness and joy.

He actually sat with his feet up on the desk, reading the paper, ignoring everyone. Caitlin walked over to him and placed her new I.D. card on the desk. She stood there and waited for him to look up, but he never did. She finally cleared her throat. “Excuse me.” He reluctantly lowered his newspaper. “I’m Caitlin Paine. I’m new. I think I’m supposed to give you this.” “I’m just a sub,” he replied, and raised his paper, blocking her. She stood there, confused. “So,” she asked, “….you don’t take attendance?”

Vanilla was one of my favourite scents and I could not help but interrupt her turning to try and find the owner of that scent. My mystery guy had moved from the stairs so I could not see him anymore. Without putting too much more attention on him I really wanted to find the owner of the pine vanilla scent. The more I smelled it, the more I knew it had to be my mate. As I moved through the crowd the scent got stronger. I gasped as the mystery guy was walking in a direct line toward me with a smile on his face. I nodded, wishing that she would just let me go. “Okay, then. Bye!” Caitlyn said, letting go of my hair and pushing me to the feast table. I couldn’t control the momentum as I bumped into the table. The food came crashing down, and I heard the chattering stop. I saw people coming closer to us as Caitlyn and her friends suppressed their laughter. “Oh my God. She’s done for.” “Why the hell is she ruining the party?” “Fuck me. She’s pretty but stupid.” “Who even is she? Alpha Kairo is going to be in a bad mood.”

Her eyes met mine as she took a step forward, standing just a step away from me, winking as she saw my smirk “I’m ready whenever you are” I took my shirt off, handing it to Jamie, one of my pack members, as he stood closest to me, and went to stand in front of my wife. After all how can you do what you set out to do if you are going to be honest about it? Much later the evening Rey finally comes back with the file. Caleb must’ve sensed Caitlin’s unease, because he took a step closer to her and put one arm around her shoulder. Caitlin had never been more grateful for any gesture in her life. And yet, as she read it, pieces of it seemed to come back to her, in some vague part of her consciousness. When Caitlin had finally come down from the attic, it had been late morning and the house was empty, Scarlet already gone to school, and Caleb already long gone to work. She was supposed to be at work herself hours ago, and hadn’t even called in. She’d been in a daze, had lost all sense of time and place. The only one to greet her had been Ruth, and Caitlin, in a daze, had merely walked past her, out the door, to her car, and had taken off, the journal still in hand.
