Was there even anything that he needed to make sense of? After a few hours, Allen took Umair back along with him. The issue was that when they walked back, Allen forgot everything that happened next and only remembered the next scene as standing in front of the school again, early in the morning. Even though that was weird, he thought that maybe the real key area was the school, that was why the things returned here again.

Since we're going to spend almost the entire day there we went prepared. But one thing we didn't know was that the pack was about to be taken away.

Because deep down… I knew something worse was waiting. Something neither of us was ready for. And it was coming faster than either of us could see.

Instead, one Tuesday evening after the community centre class, walking home through the cold with his coat collar up and the neighbourhood quiet around him, he found that the decision was already there. Had been there, probably, for some time. The decision had preceded his awareness of it — had been made by some part of him that was below the level of conscious thought, the part that knew things before the rest of him caught up. Which was, he thought, what Dani had been trying to tell him when she'd said: you always know before your brain catches up. He was going to wait.

He moved slowly toward the desk, resting his hands against its edge as he tried to piece together something that refused to make sense. He had known. He was certain of that. Aira had been pregnant before she left. That wasn’t something he imagined. It wasn’t something he misunderstood. It was fact. So what happened after? His memory shifted. Fragmented. Not after everything we had endured. We sat in silence for a few moments, each lost in our thoughts. The road ahead was uncertain, but I knew one thing for sure. "Who could be behind this unknown group? Our enemies thought they could break us, but they were wrong. they were about to find out.
