Prince from the Other Side
I saw the thin stain and trickle showing through the fabric of my dress.
"Sy," I said, clear and steady. "Sy…Look."
He whipped around, frantic, and I knew he was expecting to see something far, far worse than what he actually did. I had to grin a little sheepish reassurance, even through my terror. Gingerly, I pulled the torn place on my fabric wider, to show the tiny puncture in my flesh. It really was tiny: just a metallic pellet, rather than a bullet. I was sure because I could see it. It was a BB gun pellet, small and innocent looking, lodged just above my belly button.
