Moonlit Dominion: She-Wolf Ascendant
I say finally, “but wake me if anything happens.”
She nods, her expression softening just a fraction. “I will.”
I peck her lips and then find a spot near the fire, sinking down onto the cold ground. The crackling flames cast a warm glow, but it does little to ease the chill that’s settled deep within me. I close my eyes, letting the sounds of the camp lull me into a restless sleep.
But sleep doesn’t bring peace.
In my dreams, I’m back on the battlefield, surrounded by the bodies of fallen warriors. The smell of blood fills my nose, thick and metallic. Shadows move at the edges of my vision, dark shapes with gleaming red eyes. The vampires are there, lurking, watching, waiting.
