“A whole pack of wolves. They had brown fur, though. I thought they were bears at first. They ran toward me, but I wasn’t scared. I knew somehow that they were my friends. My family, almost.”
“Did they speak to you?”
Barrett shakes his head. “No, but they were howling. Not a regular howl, like you hear from normal wolves in the night. It was a song. They were singing some kind of melody.”
“Can you remember it?”
Barrett closes his eyes, then begins to hum. As soon as he gets the first few notes out, Clara joins in with him, singing in her crystal clear voice. They capture the melody together, in perfect sync, following the notes up and down without missing a beat.
