“You’re the NFL player?” EMMA I wish Preston wasn’t wearing sunglasses so I could see more of his expression. Instead, he stands on the front doorstep with his lips pressed into a thin line. “I do play for the NFL,” he answers coolly, as if it’s a totally normal job. “That’s football, right?” I question, knowing little to nothing about the sport. My aunt raised me, and since it was just me and her, and because she wasn’t a fan of sports, I couldn’t tell you anything about it. “Are you any good?” I push, suddenly even more intrigued by the man standing in front of me.

"Did you just hit me in the head with a rock, dickless?" He advanced toward me and drove his fist into my stomach. Now again, I'm not big and I wasn't expecting to be hit, but thanks to my dad and the elders of the church I didn't really feel pain anymore, so I got knocked on my ass. I ask as I cattily twirl my pen through my fingers. His gorgeous face hardens further, and his lips move as if he's about to respond. But before he does, Mr. Andrews interrupts. “You must be Mikhail Cross?” Mr. Andrews pats him strongly on the back, causing him to stumble slightly forward. It looks funny considering that Mikhail is over six feet and maybe 190 pounds. However, Mr. Andrews was a linebacker for some professional football team, which means he outweighs Mikhail by at least a hundred pounds.

The precision in his feet made me realize that he was really good at football so I found myself enchanted by his skills. I walked closer as he finally heard my footsteps and turned to me in shock. He had black wavy hair falling across his face, with dark grey eyes that watched me curiously. He wore a blue jersey and I could see a signature at the bottom of it. He was definitely going to be from a rich home if he could get a signed jersey from a real football player. "Who are you?" He asked and I glanced around nervously, scared that I had interrupted his game. "Uhm, my name is Henry," I whispered softly as he came closer and I took a step backwards.

"Like, the football player? Aw, hell, I saw the hit you took. I heard a rumor that you're not coming back." I held my breath, but Noah just shrugged. "Yeah, that's true. Unfortunately, the damage to my knee was just too extensive." He squeezed my hand. "But now I've got something even better than football in my life, so I'm not complaining." The other man's forehead wrinkled. "What is better than . . . oh." Understanding dawned. "Yeah, that's great." He busied himself with putting away the monitor and handing me tissues to wipe off my stomach. "Still, I'm sorry about your career. Sucks for you. Sucks for Tampa. “I know but I will prefer to call you ‘Nic’ just like I did earlier on. I hope that's cool with you?” I blinked and smiled simultaneously. “Sure, it's fine but it reminds me a lot about something and i wouldn't want to talk about it now because it's kinda all lost memory now.” He smiled in return. “It's ok.” And before he could say or do any other thing, I chipped in. “I already know you’re Brad- our star quarterback.
