Maeve Branches snapped beneath my boots as I raced between towering pines, following a path that did not officially exist. The moonlight barely reached the forest floor. What little made it through the branches broke into pale fragments across damp earth, exposed roots, and thick patches of ferns. I knew the route. I had memorized it months ago. The map of Blackthorne forest had cost me nearly everything I had saved. The trader who sold it claimed it had been drawn by an old patrol captain who served the Blackthorne Pack for thirty years.

I knew from the map where the Black Wood was supposed to be. It wasn’t hard to find—it sat on the edge of the property, dark and heavy, as if the air itself pressed down on anyone who dared to enter. When I got close, I saw Marcus standing there at the tree line.

"He's demanding audience, Alpha. Says he has a proposition that might prevent... unpleasantness." Unpleasantness. Such a delicate word for the kind of territorial war that could paint these mountains red with supernatural blood. I found Blackwood waiting in the courtyard like he owned it, flanked by three wolves who moved with the particular swagger of creatures who'd never learned proper respect for established territory. He looked older than I remembered—gray threading through dark hair, lines around his eyes that spoke of years spent in exile—but his amber gaze held the same calculating intelligence that had made him dangerous three decades ago.

He froze for a moment. "Can I draw on this?" he asked in a quietly, voice smouldering with rage. Emmet handed him a pen without asking anything, unable to deny him. Red_Two crossed out the entirety of the western portion of the map, scribbling out most of southern England as well. He circled the mountain ranges and scribbled on names which Emmet had never heard of before: Tiltų, Bolj Zelen, and Granitsa. He realised, a little too late maybe, that he was looking at a map of the future, too distracted by the panic of Red_Two.

“Close the door.” I obeyed. “I received another message this morning.” He slid a printed email across the desk. “Read this.” I picked up the paper. Subject: Blood Will Tell “The heir plays while Rome burns. But fire purifies. Fire reveals. Soon, the false will fall, and the worthy will rise from the ashes. Count your days, Blackwood. Count them carefully.” My stomach tightened. This was different from the others. More personal. More direct. “When did this arrive?” “Six AM. Routed through the same encrypted channels as the others.”

I replied sheepishly. He smiled and then turned to the King. "See you soon, Elijah" "Who's he?" I asked Elijah as he takes a glass of wine from a maid. "My uncle, Eros Black" I gasp, "You mean the Eros Black? Alpha of Blackwood pack?" He chuckles "Yes, that him." Eros Black was known in his youth days, he fought with the Alpha King before Elijah against the rouges, it's was a bloody bath between thousand of lycans and it happened thirty years ago. I wish that I had actually paid attention to their conversation.

The space was so effortlessly masculine that I could imagine he was in it if I closed my eyes, and no detail escaped me, from the leather and wood furnishings, to the books on the wall and a stocked bar at the far wall that looked like it hadn’t been touched in sometime. On his desk, a huge piece of paper sat unfurled, and even though I knew I was snooping I couldn’t help myself. I glided over, going to stand on the side of Hector’s desk that he usually sat on to have a better view of it. It was a map of our territory, or at least that was what I thought at first glance. Iris watched, her breath catching, as a map began to draw itself. It was a set of GPS coordinates located at the very edge of the Blackwood estate, miles away from the Vane mansion, tucked into a valley where the trees grew thick and the sun rarely reached. "Julian," she breathed, her thumb tracing the glowing coordinates.

“Okay, this whole territory is Blackstone.” “Okay, it’s a pretty large territory.” I said. “Yeah, but this area…” he said pointing to another section of the map, “…this is Ironclaw.” I look at the area and see there is nothing in between. “So, wait, Ironclaw begins where Blackstone ends?”

I looked down the hallway and through the other side, and there was actually no one in sight. My heart hammered as I approached the large double office doors with D. BLACKWOOD engraved on the metal plate. I forced my trembling hand to knock. No answer. Great. I knocked again. Still nothing. Screw it. I pushed the door open— —and froze in place. Damian Blackwood sat behind his massive black desk. Sharp suit. Cuffed sleeves. Jaw tight enough to crack a diamond. He didn’t look up at me. Not even a glance.
