Hope’s blanket is torn, seam split, the whale patch staring blind. Four gouges raked the doorframe, sap still wet. Four small hands reaching—marking, holding, both. My knees tried to go. I braced on the couch. “Drum. Sketchbook. Boots. Sweater. Blanket. Doorframe.” If I named them, they remained. “Don’t touch,” one of Luther’s men murmured.

** Paige’s POV ** Light spills through the kitchen window, the smell of fresh coffee in the air. Poppy’s still sitting at the counter, a second cup of coffee cradled in her hands. Jaxon’s curled against me, finally wide awake and humming to himself as he plays with the edge of his blanket. My gaze drifts down to the blanket in his lap. The wool is thick, the pattern uneven and mismatched in a way that makes me think it was made with love rather than skill. I run a hand over it. It’s soft, the colour a faded blue with thin silver strands.

"And Jake here's your new sign. Guys take off the blanket." "Welcome" at the top, and "Blue Moon Pack" across the bottom. It was a picture of a blue moon with a picture of Zeus's head in the upper corner of the moon, and a picture of his full body in the lower part of the moon howling. In the background there was a picture of his wolf sitting on a cliff. "Wow, you did this?" Jake asked. "Yes. Do you like it?" Rae asked. "No! I love it! Baby this is spectacular!" Jake said in awe.

The blanket was made of fine artificial intelligence that heated and thickened to help the wearer drive off the freezing temperatures. He covered the girl in the blanket while Brecc put his clothes on. The blanket voiced her vitals. “Let’s take her back to the cabin,” Eros said, picking her up and rushing back to the house. They walked into the cabin and found Charlotte and Alessandra drinking tea. He put the girl on one of the sofas and moved the blanket enough to see her face. Her hair had gone from soaked to damp with the heat from the blanket. He pushed the strands away and stared at her face in shock.

Either way, she reminded herself that it was none of her business and collected the soft fuzzy blanket on top of Brendan's comforter. It had a wolf's head woven into the front with a snowy mountain backdrop. Of course. Wrapping the blanket in her arms, she locked up and ran back downstairs. Brendan was still waiting outside the room and Bella couldn't help but think Maverick's words had unknowingly caused some hurt feelings. “This one, right?” Bella asked. He saw what she was holding and frowned slightly. “I meant the other one, but yeah, I guess that's fine. It was just a gift.”

It was evening, and the light had started to fade by the time we returned to the shed. Captain Grayson was sitting on the edge of his desk with a stack of grey blankets next to him. “Welcome back,” he said. “I see you’ve been...” His voiced trailed off as he saw the rabbit and he pulled a strange face I couldn’t quite place. “Here, you’ll need these. It gets a little chilly at night.” He handed each of us a blanket. They weren’t very big — more shawl than cloak — made of a scratchy, wiry material. We happily took them from him.

“Welcome to the family, Athos.” “Thank you, ma’am.” He said cutting the ribbon with his pocket knife. “Nana Dixie.” She gently corrected. He simply smiled at her as he handed Evie three of the bags. “Oh, momma.” Evie said pulling out a twin sized quilt with various motorcycle prints in a starburst pattern. Tank removed a matching full-sized quilt from his blanket. Ink removed his quilt which had the same materials in a log cabin pattern. The other twin blanket bore the same pattern.

Justina said as she started ripping it open. The first thing I grabbed was a wolf stuffy. It was just of the head with two little paws and the rest was a little blanket. The whole thing was white and grey and was the softest thing I had ever felt. “This is the cutest thing ever.” I saw as I rubbed it against my face. “I like the theme you went with.” Justina held up a matching woodsy blanket. It had trees, wolves, bears and foxes on it. There was patches of blue and grey with some black and white accents.

"You're kidding right?" I ask as I get control of myself again. Before Trey answers our waiter returns, our drinks on his black round tray and a blue Mexican blanket thrown over his arm. I've seen blankets similar to these all over with their various striped patterns. They seem to be on sale everywhere, but I haven't picked one up yet. The waiter hands me a plastic neon green cup and I place it on the edge of the fire pit while the blanket is wrapped around my back and over my shoulders to create a shawl. The fabric is thick and firm, a little scratchy, but it keeps the wind from my bare skin.

She reaches into the bag and pulls out a small Grey blanket. “It’s beautiful, thank you,” she beams, holding it up to take in the small black wolf that's been embroidered into the corner, underneath the wolf are the words ‘Little Bean’. She brings the blanket to her face as if testing the softness against her cheek. “Daddy Deacon has brought you the softest little blanket, Bean,” she smiles down at her small bump, rubbing it gently. The scene in front of me should be a happy one but it feels tainted by what may happen tomorrow. I pray that this isn't the only gift he will ever be able to give our child.
