Chapter one. ‘Harriet was trying to explain to Sport how to play Town.’” Chloe read the first chapter to Caitlyn and when she was finished and looked over at the sick little girl in the bed, Caitlyn had fallen asleep with a small smile on her face. Chloe blotted the tears from underneath her lashes. Caitlyn looked so small and vulnerable lying there with her eyes closed. Her breath was shallow and there were dark bruises under her eyes like thumbprints. Her skin was translucent and the network of blue veins was visible beneath the pale skin. Someone stepped into the room and laid a hand on Chloe’s shoulder.

The big screen in the hall displayed several images of different people with all sorts of weird looks and forms. He pressed another button and the image of a particular girl expanded till it covered the other images. Her eyeballs are completely white it looks like she can't see a thing. " Meet Blind Bat, She's been blind from birth and was abandoned on the streets when the virus broke out. My scavenging team found her half dead on the streets and she was brought to me. She can't see with her eyes, but trust me, She knows all that happens around her through vibrations. Plus, she makes some silent noise like bats that makes her detect when there's an obstacle or object blocking her" he explain

Drip. Drip. Drip. The steady sound of liquid striking stone is the first thing Maxine becomes aware of. The putrid smell of rotten flesh, wet earth, and mold is all around her. She opens her eyes, nothing. She blinks, still in darkness. ‘Have I gone blind or something?’ She sits up immediately. ‘Bad idea!’ Pain shoots through her skull so much she nearly cries out. The room, or rather the darkness, begins to spin, her stomach lurches, and everything goes black again.

Another pain wracks my body, but I make no noise. Loud noise resounds all around us, but this time within the cavernous room. Abruptly, a light comes on, sending the room into a bright, white glow. I’m instantly blinded, but my vision slowly returns. He is coming for us. He’s here. I just hope that it’s not too late. Chapter 1 Two months before …

My legs gave out from underneath me, I tried to brace myself for impact against the ground, but instead my weak body was pulled into strong arms. I blinked, trying to clear the blurriness in my eyes again, the dark spots started clouding my vision, but before it fully had a chance to pull me in, I was met with deep seafoam eyes that shone with so much intensity, “I have you.." *** This chapter wasn't the best, my apologies, next chapter will be better I promise. I was my sister now. He dragged the body to the kitchen. Water ran. A suitcase zipper opened. I kept my eyes on the wall. Counted cracks. Seven up. Three across. The water stopped. Footsteps came back. Then he turned off the lights. Darkness. My real eyes screamed for light, but the white lenses blocked everything. I breathed slow. In. Out. A phone flashlight clicked on. Beam straight into my eyes. I didn't blink. Ten seconds. Twenty. My eyes burned behind the plastic, but my face stayed empty. Bored. *Blind.*

She should let go. Chloe smiled at her thoughts. It felt much more relieving this morning. When she opened her eyes, a beam of bright light entered her eyes, making her squint and quickly pull the blanket. Suddenly, she realized that there was something different about her vision. Slowly, she lowered the blanket she had used to block the light. The longer the morning, the more her eyes started to adjust. She initially saw bright spots and primary colors, but now, the light was becoming dazzling.
