185 Claire's heart stopped beating as everything around her began to throb. The corner of her eyes pained and blurred out her peripheral vision. It was as if all her focus was directed to the man in the center of her vision and white blinking dots squirmed on the corner. "You are joking with me, right?" Her tone was bled dry of emotions, her baritone hoarse like she would cry any moment now.

The world around me seems to blur as the pain intensifies. Clutching my head, I blink and shake my head to clear my vision but dark spots begin to dance across my vision. The last thing which flashes before my eyes is a blurred image of someone before everything turns dark.

The override code. My neck muscles seize. I can't look away. I try to close my eyes, but the neural patches behind my ears send a sharp, stinging impulse that forces my eyelids to flutter open. "Look," Evelyn commands. The playback begins. 4x speed. Chapter 1: Me in my bedroom, fingers frantic, discovering the app. The look of shock on my face. Chapter 2: The kitchen counter. Coffee spilling. My head thrown back. Chapter 3: The shower. The steam. The phantom hands.

Another pain wracks my body, but I make no noise. Loud noise resounds all around us, but this time within the cavernous room. Abruptly, a light comes on, sending the room into a bright, white glow. My legs gave out from underneath me, I tried to brace myself for impact against the ground, but instead my weak body was pulled into strong arms. I blinked, trying to clear the blurriness in my eyes again, the dark spots started clouding my vision, but before it fully had a chance to pull me in, I was met with deep seafoam eyes that shone with so much intensity, “I have you.." *** This chapter wasn't the best, my apologies, next chapter will be better I promise. I was my sister now. He dragged the body to the kitchen. Water ran. A suitcase zipper opened. I kept my eyes on the wall. Counted cracks. Seven up. Three across. The water stopped. Footsteps came back. Then he turned off the lights. Darkness. My real eyes screamed for light, but the white lenses blocked everything. I breathed slow. In. Out. A phone flashlight clicked on. Beam straight into my eyes. I didn't blink. Ten seconds. Twenty. My eyes burned behind the plastic, but my face stayed empty. Bored. *Blind.*

Clang! The railing shook violently. It was bending and on the verge of breaking. Just as disaster loomed, my engine finally roared to life. I slammed the gas pedal, and the car dashed forward, breaking free from the crushing pressure. Upon seeing this, Gabriel’s face twisted with panic. He stomped the brake repeatedly before finally managing to stop his car. However, as his wheels screeched to a halt, he ran over a shard of broken glass that flew up and embedded itself deep in my thigh. I gritted my teeth as pain shot through me.

She should let go. Chloe smiled at her thoughts. It felt much more relieving this morning. When she opened her eyes, a beam of bright light entered her eyes, making her squint and quickly pull the blanket. Suddenly, she realized that there was something different about her vision. Slowly, she lowered the blanket she had used to block the light. The longer the morning, the more her eyes started to adjust. She initially saw bright spots and primary colors, but now, the light was becoming dazzling.
