He turned to me, his expression unreadable. “What is this?” “It’s a warning,” I said. “And a promise.” “Ho-how did I understand that?” He asked. I furrowed my brows. “What? I thought you might have been taught or something.” He shook his head. “I have never seen anything like that, all my life. Just by staring at it my brain translated it, it looked foreign and familiar at the same time.”

The hooves of our horses awaken some of the people of my pack, causing them to peek out their windows and doors to see what the commotion is about. Before long, we reach the courtyard of the palace and begin to dismount. After a quick debriefing, I release the men to go home to get some rest. Turning, I focus on the woman at my side and find myself floored. Her hood has fallen back to reveal raven hair, the light of dawn causes rainbows to shimmer in the long strands. Her beauty takes my breath away, but that isn’t what truly floors me. Her eyes, her eyes are a dull shadow violet. She’s blind.

There was something sweet in the air that would make one lose it. A large man of foreign origins rubbed his hands together as he looked at Sally under the blanket, letting out a wicked laugh. “Here I come, baby…” the man said in broken Fortunese. Sally opened her eyes, tired. However, she was so shocked by what she was seeing that her eyes immediately opened wide. When she heard the foreigner’s voice and realized that she wasn’t wearing anything, she instinctively grabbed the blanket tightly to cover herself. “Who are you?!”

Dumb foreigner. "Who the fuck is that?" Hugo snapped. "No one." Sloan held up his hands. "That's my bar hook up. I was going to get laid. He's foreign. He barely speaks English. I'll get rid of him." Hugo glared like he was about to shoot them all. Sloan turned to Octnavin as the man reached his side. Sloan had to tip his head up to look at the tall stranger. Shit. Octnavin was even hotter up close and in the moonlight. Focusing, he spoke fast.

He had decent picture on the front page of the newspaper. His droopy eyes were so clear behind his spectacles. They showed how genius he was. Among many creatures I had encountered for so long I had lived, his eyes surely showed the mass knowledge he possessed.

By the end of the test, the doctor's brows were deeply furrowed. "This..." He murmured under his breath. "It shouldn't be possible."Lucas felt his throat tighten. "Doctor?" The older man looked at him gravely. "I believe your sense of pheromones is severely impaired."Lucas frowned. "What does that mean?" "It means your body doesn't process pheromones the way most people do."Lucas stared blankly. "So...?" The doctor folded his hands together. "Simply put..." "You are pheromone blind.”

Just then, I heard the sound of heels outside the door, along with the tap of a cane against the floor. Evelyn was back. I instinctively hid the form behind me, slipping it into the gap in the couch. The door opened to Evelyn stepping in. She carefully felt her way forward while holding her cane. Her acting was terrible. She didn't look anything like a blind person. How did I ever believe her so completely? It was probably because I loved Evelyn. Love made one blind. And it turned out I was the one who had been blind all along. Evelyn didn't notice anything off about me. She felt her way over to the couch and wrapped her arms around my waist.

Some people just couldn’t move on—either because of pride or because they loved too deeply. “So, why exactly do you want revenge?” I asked lazily, though curiosity was creeping in. Tears formed in his striking gray eyes. My annoyance faltered for a moment. “Because she’s the reason I can no longer see the world,” he said quietly. I frowned, confused. “What do you mean?” “I’m blind,” he said, voice heavy with emotion. “I may have beautiful eyes, but I can no longer see light.” I bit my lip, speechless. That explained why he didn’t blink often—and why his gaze seemed so fixed.

Aliyah's POV The silver blade had only nicked me, but the sting felt like brand new. Since Professor Whyte’s so-called 'Null-Bane' had settled into my marrow, making every sensation was magnified ten-fold. Without the golden warmth of my Zeen wolf to dull the edges of the pain, I felt fragile, like a glass sculpture left out in a storm.
