Hence, it wasn't just my eyes, but also my weapon. The screeching of metallic objects colliding ripped through the silence of the living room. The impact sent strong vibrations through the cane, causing my fingers to go numb. My ambusher clearly hadn't expected that I would have such extraordinary reaction speed since I was blind. With a cry of pain, he dropped the metal bat to the ground. Nonetheless, I didn't give him a chance to catch his bearings. Using his earlier cry to pinpoint his location, I lashed out with my cane, accurately jabbing him right in the abdomen.

Author's POV Mira blinked open her eyes with a lazy yawn. The secure arm around her made her smile. She turned in his hold and looked at his peaceful face, she couldn't resist the urge to touch his face with lips. "I hope, you are asleep at least now!" She whispered while slowly getting out of his hold.

Something seemed amiss. I blinked twice, then again, slowly. The pain in the back of my eyes burned, yet it was subdued—muted. The world wasn't black. It was something else. Liquid light nudged the edges of my vision, like the first hint of day through mist. "Elara?" There came a voice through the mist. Filling. Warm. I shifted my head slightly, and the motion had the sensation of pulling my skull through sandpaper. "Elara, do you hear me?" The voice came closer—Dr. Knox.
