All because I wanted to see Allie before I faced everything…. “You thought you were slick.” The mocking voice of Hunter pierces its way into my fading consciousness. I hear the blunt sound of bending metal as he peeks into the crash. His face looms above mine, shameless and leering. “I’ll have the results of the autopsy, thank you very much,” he murmurs, looking around my car. When he doesn’t see it, he tilts his head. “You must have hidden it well. I can’t find it under all this rubble, but I can still get rid of it. It might just be painful for you.”

His fangs grow long and pierce Hector’s neck. Hector screams. The feeling of fire travels through his body. Hector feels his heart slow as Rex drinks his blood. Hector sees red, then nothing as his body dies. Once Rex is finished draining Hector of his life force, he seals the wound. Hector is lifeless. “Cuff his hands and let’s get back before someone comes looking for him,” orders Rex. The other two obey. Jesse cuffs Hector's hands and Mike slings Hector’s lifeless body over his shoulder. The five of them head away from Hector’s home and back towards their Master’s castle.

It stung like hell but I had to suck it up. He flicked the blood all around with the knife, spreading it out and putting it into the air. I could faintly hear Ben and the others chanting, I could sense the vampires’ eagerness at the smell of fresh blood. They fucking better have all fed cause I’m sure as hell not about to die cause one of them can’t control themselves! Hunter sheathed the dagger in a leather case and lifted my shirt just enough to tuck it in my waistband. I nodded at him approvingly.

Chapter 51: The Blood Oath The rain came down in cold sheets, washing the blood from the streets but doing nothing to cleanse the night of the terrible atrocities. In the shadows of the city, Evelyn Hawthorne’s empire filled with quiet fury, the balance of power wobbling as every move was countered by unseen hands.

I try to return his grin, but his next words force me to sober straight up and lie my lily ass off. “Where you been tonight, huh?” He squeezes my shoulder. “Your old lady had no clue. Alessia said you went racing straight to church, only Sicillio confirmed you never showed, enforced we really aught to locate you before you did something…” His voice pitches all the lower. “...stupid.” “I got an ongoing hunt for the bloodsucker that murdered Mike and Jim,” I reply, holding his eyes with clear, furious resolve I do not gotta fake. “Had to pin that monster in his new hidey-hole before the lead went cold.”

I looked down to see my own blood, pooling over the open pages of the book given to me by the sprites, a blade with black diamonds on the hilt and a large deep red ruby sitting inside a metal frame at the base of the handle, protruded from my stomach. Gasping I could feel my life fade away, I took one last look to see that Joshua had been ran through, his lifeless body laid crumpled on the cold bloody ground. I could hardly recognize the scream of terror that escaped my lips before I felt my life leave my body. Draven.

In a heartbeat, one of them sends Hunter flying through the air as he sends his skeletal hand over his torso. "Hunter!!" I yell, my mouth dropping open as Hunter lands on the nearby Yew tree, the sound of bones cracking rattling my ears. He lands face-first into a gravestone, blood bursting from his nose and mouth. "Ohhh," Hunter groans, rolling to the ground. "Hun..." The words die in the mouth as I see them two steps away from me. My heart leaps as I freeze, wondering what my fate will be. Have we been invaded by aliens in the realm?

“I’m going to kill you.” My shifting sent Joey and Anna into a spiral. “A white wolf. She’s a white wolf…” As expected from an Alpha, Joey was quick to snap back to reality. He gave Anna a nudge and shouted, “Run!” Joey put himself between us to cover Anna’s escape. There was no way I would let them get away with it. Blood must be paid with blood. I was right on Anna’s tail all the way to the street. Even on the broad street, she managed to lose herself in the heavy traffic.

I wasn’t going to but there was no way I could when it was always one problem after the other in the pack? “There she is!” Hunter screams and we all find ourselves running in the same direction. Aunt Hyacinth is lying on the floor soaked in blood and it’s not a sight I want to keep in my mind for a long time. Her clothes are filthy but there’s no mistaking the heavy scent of blood. “Is she alive?” I ask the heavy question weighing on all out minds. “She’s alive!” Nikolai shouts as he sweeps up in two hard tries. “What do we do now? Where do we go from here?” Hunter asks the obvious question, none of us thought of how we would return. We don’t even have the slightest idea where we are.
