Stepping my foot harder on the pedal I gritted my teeth, accelerating faster past the stream of city lights which became blurry in sight. If I had heard those words from Darren, it wouldn't have hurt this much. But it was from Laurel, the innocent, timid friend that I would do anything for just to see her happy. I sighed and smiled. "Well, mom is such a strong woman, but yesterday, when we had all fun and happiness, she suddenly had a cardiac arrest. The doctor said that she needs surgery in Switzerland," I replied and looked outside the window to stop my tears from falling. "Uh... Do you want a bargain?" he asked and glanced at me, then grinned. I watched him as he walked out of my penthouse with determination and urgency in his steps and knew that he was going to make everything go smoothly as he usually does. I rest back against the couch I was seated on, closed my eyes, and smiled. If she thinks that she could just escape my clutches like that, then she’s got to think twice about that. But then the next minute, a frown replaced the smile on my face, as my thought drifted to the dangers that she was about to face soon. He adjusted the cuffs of his expensive suit, the gold of his cufflinks catching the warm glow of the sun that pierced through the windows. His cologne filled the room.
