The hall was a huge round chamber supported by fluted marble pillars.
In the center of the hall, on a dais carved from a huge block of translucent quartz, lay an ancient pedestal.
On the pedestal was an odd-looking object, a pendant, tear-shaped, wrought from some unknown iridescent metal that changed color from pale silver to deep violet. Inside the lattice was a shining milky-white focus stone that beat with a soft rhythmic pulse.
"The tear of Elyra," I whispered, recalling the name from the ancient memory of my marrow, rather than from a book.
