Alexa climbed the stairs while holding the rail until she got to the last step and switched on the light switch. The dark and creepy room lightened up instantly once the light came up. Books of the old and some stored papers were carefully arranged alphabetically and chronologically. Her hands swiped through the books and a photo fell down from one of the book. The photo contained the same identical image of both his mother and hers too. “Who are you to my mother?” Lexa clenched her fist tightly and moved closer to the bookshelf and this time, taking her time to look at the contents of the book.

"She's looking for the next box." A photographer from the Times—who had come for a story on the Foundation but stayed for the spectacle—snapped a picture. It ran on the front page the next day. It wasn't a photo of a billionaire heiress smiling. It was a photo of a little girl with messy hair, sitting on a mountain of books, reading to a toddler she had never met. The caption read: The Legacy. Aria cut it out. She didn't frame it in gold. She pinned it to the corkboard in the kitchen, right next to Theo’s drawing of the fortress.

“It’s worse not knowing.” He didn’t like that answer, but he knew I was right. We all went to the bedroom. They didn’t leave me alone for even a second.
