Books Like Something Borrowed Novels & Stories

I stopped at the library door and smiled to myself. ‘Books are better than people. Books don’t hate on you for something you didn’t do.’ I pushed the door open and breathed in the wonderful smell of books. ‘Paradise.’ I strolled to the shelves and scanned through the books, reading their names off their spines. ‘It seems Dante wasn’t joking when he said half of his library was filled horrors.’ A book caught my eye, and I pulled it from the others. “Bone and Souls by B. Brian.” I read the name aloud and skimmed through the description behind it. “This seems interesting.”

As I perused the books, I could feel Aidan’s gaze on me. The shop, much like the one downstairs, boasted an impressive selection. These were books to be enjoyed in the coffee lounge, not purchased or taken home. A smile tugged at my lips as I reached the romance novel section. So, Well Thumbed had these too. I wondered if they had hidden gems, perhaps something I hadn’t read or that Uncle Alex’s book club, Bound To Please, hadn’t discovered yet.

The wails of a child tore me from sleep. "Look at our son, Lily. Isn't he just precious?" Derick smilingly cradled a baby in his arms, standing at the foot of my hospital bed. Feeling at a loss as to what to do with myself, I decided to explore the library. Wandering through the currently empty house on my way to the library, I begin to find myself feeling rather lonely. Flicking Kenzie a quick text to see what she is up to, I walk through the door and into the library. Perusing the shelves I see that the majority are classics such as Charles Dickens and Jane Austin. But tucked away in the corner I spy one of my favourite fantasy series. A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. Curling up in the lone red leather chair I open the first book and begin to read.

I walked toward the shelves, lazily running my fingers across the spines of the books as I scanned the titles. History of Blood Clans. Treaties of the Northern Territories. Ancient Magical Structures. Boring. Boring. Also boring. Who actually reads this stuff for fun? I kept moving along the shelves until one particular book caught my attention. It looked older than the others, the cover worn and faded like it had been opened a thousand times before. Curious, I pulled it out. The moment the book left the shelf, something clicked behind the wall. I froze. “…Okay.”
