Books To Read When Sad Novels & Stories

The stories always seemed to start and end the same. I closed the book I was reading and dropped it on my bed. It bounced and fell off the side but I didn't care enough to even try to pick it up. I stared at the book for a while before sighing and placing my head on my pillow. I really need to try out new genres, I thought to myself. Maybe it's because I read too many books with the same themes or maybe it's because I've always wished to be the character in the book, but somehow, someway, the more I read the book, the sadder I feel.

It looks like Naazwa wrote it with her own hands. "You can check this book whenever you feel down because I write down whatever it is that will help myself when I feel like I can't move again. There are moment when you feel like you have no one in the world. You will feel like you're the only struggling in the world all by yourself. I grin and she laughs. "Well if you ever need some real action, you know where to find me." She says, and we laugh harder. "There's this boy though, more of a man. I just see him around, do not know his name, or anything about him, just that he has a dark dress sense, and something undeniable melancholic about him, which draws me in. Everytime I see him, he's either listening to sad shit, like NF, J Cole, Halsey, or reading some exceptional books, that are sad, like Normal People, A Little Life, and I swear I saw him reading Harry Potter and V.E Schwabs Vicious." She says

"Well, All books, all genres except sad fictions. I don't understand why books would have sad endings. Books like All the bright colors, The fault in our stars, We were liars and co. I hate reading those kind of books. I prefer books like Eleanor and Park, Holding up the Universe, A very large expanse of sea. Generally, light novels that'd just make me smile. A sun is also a star, books with breathtaking ending that'd make you feel things." She concluded, leaning back in her seat and I found myself leaning forward, hands on the desk separating us. I wondered fleetingly what it'd feel like to share her views. The books she hated were books I'd consider brutally honest and the books she liked

“Well, my shift’s over so I thought to come out here to rest awhile, before heading home. I presume you’re out here for a different reason.” “Yeah….” A long exhale escaped my lungs. “Felt a little lonely.” Adrian nodded slowly. “I think I might have just the thing to fix that.” He deeped his hand into his coat pocket and pulled out a book. “I read this whenever I’m sad, overwhelmed or probably just need to keep myself busy, and right now all you need is to keep yourself busy with this.” I took the book from his hand. The title was written in red block letters.

Nothing’s wrong with that, right? No, I should just stay here and read a book. The world of words always serves as an outlet, a sanctuary for me. A single sentence has the potential to transport me to a place where the sun always sets in a symphony of soft shades, and my feet don’t have to stay rooted to the ground. Sadness entrenches in my chest. Paul's kisses uproot me even more than the books.

I say. "Sure thing." She stands up from the dining table and walks out. In my bedroom, I sit on my bed thinking about almost everything. "Sitting here feeling depressed won't help me in anyway," I say out loud and head downstairs to grab a book from my dad's shelves. I choose one that I've never read before, one that's about the first world war. Yeah, pretty boring but, I need something to put me to sleep very fast. Without wasting time, I'm back in my room in a jiffy and change into my tiny shorts and tank top. I lie down on my bed and start reading.

Permit me to say this but I don't think I will regret staying here…. The book clearly covered my face as I tried to find my way through an empty desk. Florida could only laugh at my silly attitude. She just won't understand so I laughed along with her. Dropping down the books, I heaved in relief. "Fifty Shades Of Grey," I read out, caressing the book cover. I'm definitely reading all these. "Shannara Chronicles," “Game of thrones,” "Beautiful Disaster," "wow…..this is really amazing," I exclaimed, reading the title of each book I grabbed.

Suddenly my world was filled with indie folk I'd never heard—soft guitars and lyrics about longing and loss. "This is depressing," I said, but I didn't ask him to change it. "It's cathartic. There's a difference." He lay back on the grass, eyes closed. "Music is supposed to make you feel things. Even the sad stuff. Especially the sad stuff." I lay next to him, watching clouds drift across the bright blue sky. "When did you become so wise?" "I read a lot of self-help books after the breakup. They're mostly garbage, but some things stuck."

“Ashley, look, these are the two books that I want you to finish as fast as you can.” Professor Connelly hands me two hard bound books in brown leather, and I can tell from the bland color of the cover that these books are going to be filled with lots of words about economics and the business world. But now I don't find them boring, instead they keep me motivated… and slowly but steadily, I have started to find the direction I was always supposed to walk towards. And I have finally started to move on from the pain that my parent's absence has been giving me, day after day, by making me cry every moment… every waking moment, whenever I used to find myself alone.
