The dragon was breathing fire over the crowd of enemy soldiers. Maybe Charles and Isabella were right, for once. Maybe I should do some research. I walked over to Felix’s bookshelves. I wasn’t sure if I was filled with surprise or dread upon seeing the titles on the shelves: Anatomy of a Dragon. A Brief History of Dragons. Dragon Battle Tactics. One book in particular caught my eye: an old, leather-bound volume, entitled Dragon Knights and Their Powers. Dragon Knights? Something about that phrase stirred something deep within me, as if I’d heard it before.

People scream and scurry away in fear, they are right to fear me, I am too angry to show mercy right now. I remember reading a book when I was a girl, all about dragon lore and the special things they could do, so I lift my right paw and bite into my finger/toe to draw blood, then lower it to Drake. I let a few drops fall onto his chest and then one into his mouth, before sealing my wound and returning my attention to those around us. These tiny things are all my enemies they all are trying to take Drake away from me! “RAARR!! Grrrrr!!”

I said out loud and pushed play. “You like dragons?” He asked watching the movie with me. “I have seen this movie years ago.” I begin, Then I laughed at a memory. “I used to pretend I was a princess in a castle and imagined a beautiful red dragon turning into a handsome prince that would rescue me from a bad knight.” He smiled but didn’t laugh. As I watched him, I noticed something strange about his expression. I frowned at him. “What? What’s wrong?” He pasted a smile which I knew was fake. “Nothing.” He says, “So I take it since you saw dragons as heroes that you like dragons?”

Dragons. “Liana?” Moran’s tone is almost somber, a tad bit authoritative. The girl stands up hurriedly, startled and sheepish. She bows deeply. “Princess Valerie wants to check out a few books. Please help her with whatever she requests.” Liana’s gaze darts towards me before her gaze gravitates back to Moran. She gives him a thin smile and nods in deference. Moran doesn’t wait after that. After he was gone, Liana asks me whether I had any specific book in mind, and when I mentioned mages, she guided me to the last aisle.

"And what does Princess Elara think of all this?" Jagger shrugged. "Who knows? Royals rarely get a say in their own fates. But she'll put on a brave face, as they always do." I flipped through the pages, marveling at the intricate illustrations. "It's strange, isn't it? To have your life mapped out for you." "Indeed," Jagger mused, his tone unusually reflective. "That one covers the histories of dragons." He pointed to the book I clutched in my hands. "What do you know about dragons?" I asked, taking the last bite of my marchpane before joining him on the long chair. I settled in, resting the book on my legs, and began flipping through the pages, each one revealing dragons of various colors,

Mae said as her eyes were also sparkling. Zelia also nodded her head, as she agreed, "I know right! While I was in the Mortal World, I would always buy a lot of dragon pillow, blanket, bedding sheet, and also a lot of story that related to dragons. I love dragon so much." Mae also nodded her head, "I also read a lot of books related to dragons. I always thrilled when I read a fantasy that has a dragon that they can also blow a fire out of their mouth, then they could also fly. So cool."She said while admiring the appearance of the dragon.

Calix asked after a long moment of silence, pulling out a book from the small stack on my desk. “That is a book of tales and myths about our people.” I said, smiling when he placed the book next to me on the loveseat. “It holds the story of the original Shifters and the Four Sacred Dragons that founded the four Kingdoms.” Calix climbed onto the seat and grabbed the book, raising it to me as he settled against the armrest. “Would you like me to read it to you?” I smiled as he nodded again, his brown hair bouncing around as he leaned in a little closer.

Drake remembered reading stories about dragons who had their own magic and could shapeshift into human form. It didn’t take long for Talia to realize that the Catalogue was useless. It had names of authors and titles, and everything was neatly categorized in alphabetical order, but unless it said, "THIS IS ABOUT THE GUARDIANS", Talia would definitely miss it. Dejectedly, Talia closed the massive book. "You didn’t find what you were looking for?", Feya asked, startling Talia. The witch was standing on the side quietly and Talia completely forgot about her.

Hello, everyone! This is XSkylar19. It has been a very interesting ride for me while writing Bane of the Dragons because (fun fact) this was my very first dragon genre. I know some of you probably disliked how everything turned out or how fastpaced everything happened but know that this was intentional as I couldn't drag the story on. Anyway, while this book becomes the first book for dragon genre, it certainly wasn't my first book in the fantasy genre.
