Jason's POV I flip through books, magazines, anything I can find in the room. I even read the newspaper a couple times, it was boring. Finally, I decide to watch Tv. "I'm bored," I whine out loud. I switch the channel after a few seconds, then again, then again. There is nothing interesting. "I'm bored," I repeat again, a little louder than before. Hey! That sounded like a melody! I smirk and tap a beat on my chest, "I'm bored, I'm bored. Yeah, I'm bored."

He'd been wrong. ~Three Months Earlier~ The coffee in Marcus Chen's office had gone cold an hour ago, a ring of beige residue coating the inside of the mug. He hadn't noticed. His attention was fixed on the research proposal spread across his desk—the one that had kept him awake until 3 AM for the past week—and the one that was about to be picked apart by the woman sitting across from him.

Then I commented underneath it. "Thanks for the concern, everyone. We've broken up. Please don't bother me about this."

I then noticed a comment in the comment section. "In the original story, Waylon's insistence on marrying Zoe led to a fallout with his parents. Zoe eventually drove the Sorenson family into bankruptcy, causing his parents to age decades in one night and commit suicide by jumping from a building. Their current situation just makes me want to burst into tears."

Back then, I told myself they were just like family, so there was no need to get jealous. However, all those little signs I had ignored played back in my head, over and over. When she came back, we launched our design studio. I landed a whale of a client, a deal that put us on the map overnight. On the night of our big bash, I had one too many and wanted her to pick me up. I called over and over, but got nothing. Finally, a coworker ended up driving me home. The morning after, she came to me with puffy, red eyes, spilling the story of how Yoel was heartbroken, how he had drowned his sorrows in booze at the bar, and how she had stayed with him through the night.

SLOANE Boredom is a type of punishment, the type that Chase has mastered. I was at home but it felt like I was alone. I had memorized the paint on the wall and counted every stripe of the rug. I had opened every drawer, sniffed every perfume and shirt. But nothing changed. I was tired, I had walked around over and over again. Walking from corner to corner. He said I should stay here, I am doing that, I am trying to do that.

But werewolves were obsessed with moon and moon goddess! “Excuse me?” one woman snapped. “Are you crazy?” “This is the greatest love story alive!” another protested. I tilted my head and answered her. “No matter how great a story is,” I said coolly, “it gets tiring when it’s the same thing over and over again.” A few gasps. “I would rather read something original.” I sniffed lightly, my gaze drifting back to the illustrations. “Your artist has talent, but it’s being wasted on poor folklore.”

Sadie wasn’t even pretending to watch and Brook just sat quietly like he always did but Jay could tell he wasn’t enjoying it either. “That’s it” Jay said as he put off the tv. “Too boring for a Friday night…we…are going to play a game” “What game? it’s late” Sadie replied. “Truth or dare” Jay said with a smirk on his face. “Come on Jay, we’re not high schoolers anymore” she replied with an eye roll. Like I did everything these days. Gods, I was so. Fucking. Bored. And I missed Declan, like an itch under my skin. Bored. I was bored, and that was all. A group of retirees settled in at a blackjack table nearby, laughing and chattering. They weren’t bored. The dealers and the cocktail waitresses and the security staff and the pit bosses, they all had something to do. They were busy. They weren’t bored. But I had nothing in the world to do but wait to get fucked.

Some stories started with hate. This one ended with everything.
