We were a collection of scars and broken promises, but we were still here. ​Outside, the sun was beginning to rise over the horizon, a real sun, untainted by the Web or the Harvesters. The light hit the rusted spires of the city, turning the scrap into gold. The city was broken, its protectors were shattered, and the future was a series of variables no one could calculate. The sky was no longer a shield, and it was no longer a cage. It was just the sky, vast and terrifyingly empty.

Hailey’s POV The sky breaks. Not with thunder. Not with light. With silence. One moment the distant presences are only shadows behind reality… the next, something tears open between the stars. A thin fracture spreads across the darkness. Like glass cracking. Everyone feels it. The air grows heavy, pressing against my chest as if the universe itself just inhaled and forgot how to breathe out again. Elias looks up slowly. “Oh no,” he whispers. Aaron’s eyes narrow. “They’re early.”

"You are an amazing person whether you see it or not. You see everything you've been through as bad luck but I see it as struggles that you made it through and became stronger from. I'm not scared of your past, Tiffany." Tiffany exhaled through her noes. She held a worrisome and somewhat sad look on her face which made my chest ache because I knew she was finding it hard to believe and accept that someone was willing to love her despite the baggage she was carrying. "Maybe you're right," she finally said, looking at me with soft eyes. "But... I'm broken and messed up and have pieces of me all over the place. That's not something anybody should have to deal with, Noah."

He studied her. Weighed the request. “You would accept my help?” he asked. Amber held his gaze. “I would accept anything that keeps this from destroying everything.” A long silence followed. Then— Very slowly— Her father nodded. “Then we prepare,” he said. The words barely settled before— The sky cracked. ⸻ It wasn’t a sound. It was a rupture. A visible fracture tearing across the unstable sky above them, light spilling through in sharp, jagged lines. The ground beneath their feet responded instantly, pulsing violently, the patterns no longer flowing but colliding.

Chapter Thirteen: Sister of Ash The sky had turned a deep, smoky gray, as though the heavens themselves mourned what was awakening beneath the soil. Seren stood at the edge of the crater, surrounded by the wreckage of her birthright and the screams of the cursed tree that once marked Black Hollow’s sacred heart. Her robes—dark blue with silver embroidery—fluttered with energy. She hadn’t aged past her early twenties, her presence defying time, her expression carved from stone.

Mom was screaming as we flew midair, and I was holding on to hope and faith that we’d make it out alive. BLACK… Voices, that's what I heard as I opened my eyes, everything was a blur at first until I saw my mother lying on the floor bloody, her white dress stained with blood. I tried standing but couldn't, I couldn't feel my legs, so I dragged myself over to her screaming as the broken glass pierced my hands but not stopping, not until I reached her. “Mom, mom…” She wasn't answering, she didn't answer, her eyes were closed, and she wasn't breathing…

Sergio chuckled, then walked over to the glass wall offering a view of Portland at night. A row of lush trees, still green in the fall, seemed to split the sea of stars beneath the dark night sky. “I want to feel Claire’s body again; I’m curious about the pleasure I’ll get from her alluring body right now,” Sergio said, then chuckled softly. “After that, I’ll kill her—if necessary, I’ll keep her body as a memento.”

Archer glared at her with red eyes and roared, "Nobody but Selene can call me that!" He hurried home as quickly as he could but soon realized that there was nothing left in the house. It was completely void of everything that belonged to me. There were only two eye-piercing documents left for him on the coffee table in the living room. One was a divorce agreement. The other was proof of my abortion. "H-How could she actually… kill the baby?" Archer fell to the ground in grief and despair. He swallowed his tears of remorse as they gushed out from his eyes. However, the woman who would gently comfort him and tell him that everything would be alright was gone.

At some point, my body gave up, and I fell asleep right there, still sitting by the window with my eyes half open. ... The next night, around the time I figured the reunion party would be in full swing, I couldn't help myself. I turned my phone back on. The second it lit up, it started vibrating like crazy nonstop. Dozens of missed calls. Luca. Maria. A bunch of numbers I didn't even recognize. I thought I'd feel calm. I thought I was done with this. But seeing all those missed calls? I felt something crack in my chest. I thought I was ready to walk away. I wasn't.
