Chapter 3 (Sophia's POV) The shattered champagne glass lies in glittering pieces at my feet, but it’s nothing compared to the wreckage happening inside my chest. Marriage. To Alexander Voss. For one year. The words echo in my skull like a death sentence. I can’t breathe. The Grand Ballroom suddenly feels too bright, too loud, too full of vultures circling fresh blood. Lila is still talking, something about emergency meetings and lawyers on standby. But all I hear is the roaring in my ears.

The words didn’t change. They didn’t shift or soften or disappear the way Ava wished they would. They stayed there. Cold. Clear. Unforgiving. She doesn’t know anything yet. Keep it that way. Ava read it again. And again. As if repetition might somehow change its meaning. It didn’t. Her grip tightened around the phone. Her fingers slightly trembling now, not from fear alone—but from something deeper. Something sharper. Betrayal. Slowly—very slowly—she lifted her gaze to Daniel.

He looked back at her. “You want us to make a vow?” Ayaan queried. I thought about him signing those papers last night, distracted, already thinking about Francesca’s mouth. He never even read them. Because it never occurred to him that I would leave. For four years, I had swallowed every betrayal. Every humiliation. Every broken promise. He thought I would swallow forever. He was wrong. There wouldn’t be a next time.

None of this was right, it couldn't be, I shook my head in tears, to accept all that was happening right now. "Before the goddess and the pack, I, Caden Jacobs, reject you, Elowen Stark as my mate and Luna," he declared and I cried out in pain, our bond snapping into two as I collapsed on the floor. "Before I declare judgement on you, I'll introduce you to my love and the Luna of this pack," he said, ignoring the fact that I i was in excruciating pain. "Raven darling, come up here." I looked up sharply from the floor unable to believe my ears and watched Raven walk up to Caden, taking his hands.

Alika’s POV There was a page in the book that hadn’t been there the night before. I was sure of it. Pressed between a crumbling leaf and the edge of a wax-stained page, it had appeared like a wound reopening—a set of instructions written in a woman's looping hand, smudged with something that looked like dried ash and blood.
