Bubbling In Chest Novels & Stories

Just a moment. But I’m still here. I try to breathe. It feels like acid in my chest or a thousand knives dragging across the inside of my chest. I swallow thickly, exhaling loudly, my breaths ending in sputters and violent coughs, as if borrowed from some other body. The pain is everywhere, searing through my abdomen like molten iron, sharp and unrelenting. I attempt lifting my arm, groaning softly as I crane my eyes, taking in the odd bluish coloration it was having.

I look anywhere to the edge of my eye. There! Finally a bubble! And it's pretty big too! I remove my hands from my ears and went straight swimming to the bubble. The distance between us is so short because it's just in front of me. Even with that distance, this gigantic bubble is barely visible from the human eyes. The bubble started sucking me as soon as I touched it. *huff huff huff" It was a hellish experience. I grasp my right chest as I hold it tightly. My left chest is expanding and shrinking because I am breathing deeply but my right chest doesn't.

My vision blurs with motion, and the pressure in my chest tightens like a fist. I step to the edge of the sidewalk, clutching the straps of my bag as if they’re the only thing holding me to earth. My lungs seize violently, refusing to expand. A thin, high ringing builds behind my ears, drowning out the city. I try to inhale, but the air hits a wall halfway in, and panic ricochets through my body. I stumble back, trying desperately to steady myself. The ground feels uneven under my feet. I suck in another breath, then another, but each one is thin, insufficient, like breathing through a pinhole.

The nurse cautioned. Jace bit down his lip to cause the excitement blowing inside him to remain a little bit more bottled up. "We're sorry about that. He was just excited, that's all." Alexa explained and apologized. "I understand that, but you should know better. Shouting takes a lot of energy, and during this action, a lot of air leaves the lungs... And since your brother has a bad heart, air leaving his lungs for more than 7 seconds would cause more damage." The nurse said.

As the reality of the situation starts sinking in, a bizarre pain in my chest starts increasing. Soon it becomes too much. It's like someone is constantly stabbing your chest and you're screaming at them not to. I squeeze my eyes shut and throw my head back, screaming. My eyes well up with tears and one drops down, followed by another, till my face is a complete mess of water and salt. Suddenly my entire body gets exhausted. My heart aches to an extent when I feel stabbing it would be less painful. I sniff and whimper, slipping onto the floor. I lay there with my head on the cold marble for a good while, contemplating what happened today.

T-they…are dead? My heart started to beat erratically, a pounding in my chest that felt as if it was threatening to burst forth. I couldn't seem to get my lungs to function properly anymore; the air felt thick and heavy, and no matter how hard I tried I could not seem to take a full breath of much needed oxygen. It was like I had been submerged underwater and every passing second became more difficult to survive. The panic rising within me only added on top.

 Heat spread slowly across my breasts, deep and throbbing, like something inside me was waking up.  “What…” I whispered to the empty room.  I sat up slowly.  The pressure increased.  A strange, almost pulling sensation.  Instinctive.  Needy.  My heart began to beat faster.  I pressed a hand cautiously over my chest — and froze.  They felt fuller.  Heavier.  Swollen.  Panic flickered through me.  I threw the blankets aside and rushed toward the bathing chamber, my steps uneven.  Maybe I was imagining it.

“The baby just has excellent taste.” He pops his head around the corner, grinning. “If she demands peanut butter on pizza next, I’m drawing the line.” I’m laughing as I answer and that’s when I feel it. It’s not what I expected. I’ve read so many descriptions in books and online—some say it’s like bubbles popping, or like popcorn, or like a goldfish swimming just under the surface. But it’s none of those things. It’s a flutter. A soft brush against the inside of my belly, like the flick of a butterfly wing. Not strong. Not painful. But there.

I found myself in the back garden, taking deep breaths of the fresh air. My lungs felt tight, I was struggling to breathe. My heart was pounding, I couldn’t hear anything but my heart. Ba-dum, ba-dum, ba-dum, louder and louder. My heart felt like it was going to burst from my chest as my lungs constricted. I fell to my knees as my breathing got worse. The pain across my chest was indescribable.

My stomach violently churned, and a wave of sickness hit me so hard I thought I was going to throw up right there where I was. My heart wasn't just beating; it was slamming against my ribs like a trapped animal trying to break free. Thud-thud-thud-thud. It was so loud and so fast that it was the only thing I could hear. It hurt. It actually hurt my chest, right where that strange stone was embedded. "I can't… I can't breathe.” I choked out, but the words barely made a sound. It was just a dry wheeze.
