“Explain yourself. Who’s attacking Greenvale?” Steve quickly scoops up the bag and stuffs more gold into it from a nearby safe. “There’s no time to explain! I have to go.” As he tries to brush past me, Zen and Oliver arrive. Zen, with his towering frame, blocks Steve’s path. Despite being an Alpha, Steve’s years of indulgence have softened him, and he’s no match for us. Together, we stand firm, preventing his escape. I glare at him. “I said, explain.”

"Hey, are you okay!" Skylar's head snapped as she finally walked down the steps, encountering her elder brother, future Alpha of the Crystal heart pack, Steve, who had a bulky, muscled body, dyed silver hair, and a pair of grey orbs. "Steve!" Instantly, she became activated as she jumped into his arms, embracing him tightly while he chuckled and stroked her hair, her scent filling his nose but he frowned when a weird sensation build up in his system. I tell you now that if you go back in there, you are not coming out. Steve gave his life so that I can get back here to give you his message. It was to get out of here and do not go and look for him."

It was my turn to break into a smile. When I touched his chest, I discovered he was wearing a bulletproof vest. Whatever Steve has shot him with didn't go through. And he was pretending. When I bent down, he told me he wanted to play with Steve. That was what he whispered into my ears. “Surprise! Surprise!!” I said. Slowly, his head tilted back, his jaw tightening as he caught the wind blowing up from the valley. ​His hand drifted down from my shoulder, his fingers resting lightly against the side of my neck, right over my pulse. ​"Rogue scouts," he whispered, his mouth right by my ear. But the rain washed the trail clean enough to throw them off." ​The truck idled on the road below. A heavy door slammed shut, followed by the crunch of boots on wet gravel. A rough voice barked something in French, followed by a curse.

Covering myself with a light throw I looked up at Penny returning with old Steve in tow. “Mister Steve wishes to speak with you about Mister Hawkins,” she said softly and I creased my brow as I looked at Steve. “I know that he is a vampire king, and it bothered him after I pointed it out,” I muttered, and he nodded as he let out a long exhale. Wringing his hands Steve clenched his teeth and looked around the room. “I'm feeding him now,” I commented, assuming he was curious about the child, and grinned slightly when he nodded.
