He draped his arm over the boy’s shoulder and led him into the building, sensing the watchful eyes of the teachers who had to know about the bullying but never seemed to do much about it. “You aren’t fucking serious… come on, bruv?” Ste whined. “Fucking… call me bruv again and I’ll end you. You’re out. I’m sick of your bullshit.” When they got into the corridor Ste was still following them. Their footsteps echoed down the mostly empty school hallway.

I tried to push past them, but one girl shoved my shoulder, making my books scatter across the floor. “Aww, don’t cry, little virgin,” another mocked. “Maybe if you weren’t such a stuck-up nerd, someone would actually want to think of fucking you at least.” Tears stung at the corner of my eyes, threatening to spill out, but I bit back the tears not wanting to show any form of weakness right in front of my bullies. I bent down to pick up my books, with my hands shaking violently. This wasn’t new to me here, and the bullying had actually been going on for months but today it hit harder than usual. I felt so small, pathetic, and completely alone in this world that trampled on the weak.

And Magnus was busy with council meetings. So I went to the library. It was empty, as usual. Dust floated in the sunlight coming through the tall windows. I walked between the shelves, not really sure what I was looking for. I just needed to think. To breathe. And that’s when I saw it. A book. Thick and old, with a cracked spine and faded gold lettering. It was lying open on the table like someone had been reading it. I frowned and stepped closer. "Creatures of Darkness," it said.

“She smiles more now.” Tommy grinned slowly. “Maybe somebody should stop bullying her then.” I rolled my eyes. “I don’t bully her.” All three of them stared at me silently. Then Tyler burst out laughing. “BRO.” I grabbed a pillow and threw it directly at his face. But even while they laughed— One thought stayed stuck in my head. Hannah Foster was changing. Slowly. I guess because I have come to learn that Enzo will always bully me. It makes me feel like I am useless. Maybe that’s why what he does to me does not faze me or surprise me. I have learnt to live with the fact that nothing I do, or will do, will ever satisfy Enzo or even please him.
