Cafe Libri Novels & Stories

Sophia The bookstore café smells like cinnamon buns and strong espresso, the kind of mix that makes you want to linger even if the chairs are uncomfortable. The space hums with a quiet buzz, pages being turned, low conversations, the hiss of milk steaming behind the counter. I arrive first and order a large cappuccino to keep my hands busy, pretending to read the opening chapter of a novel I pulled from the nearest display. My eyes don’t move across the page so much as hover. Every time the door opens, I glance up. Ridiculous. Like a teenager on her first coffee date.

I said. Lealtà.— Loyalty. It was a word these dogs clearly didn't understand. "One last time, E," I growled, leaning close to his ear. "Give me something I can use. Or I'll start removing pieces, one by one.” I'm not called Lupo fantasma for nothing. I earned that name— of late, I've been slipping up badly. His breathing ragged. "It's... it's the downtown library, Capo! The one near the park. They use the children's section. The books... they change, but they always leave a red ribbon tied around the spine." He said all in one breath.

Life is rude. It doesn’t slow down because your heart is tired. The café still opens at seven. Coffee still needs grinding. Milk still spills. Customers still want extra foam like their day depends on it. And maybe it does. So I show up. Every morning. Smile. Unlock the doors. Check stock. Nod at suppliers. Laugh when someone tells a bad joke across the counter. I am very good at pretending now. Too good. The café smells like cinnamon and coffee and paper from new books. My books. Our library section is full almost every day now. Students curled up in corners. Office people pretending to read while scrolling through their phones. Couples whispering like the world outside doesn’t exist.

His first stop is Cafe Ysabel. A famous coffee shop downtown where people crowd in like they can’t breathe without their coffee. It has a beautiful Romanesque interior design with a lot of different kinds of coffee and desserts offered. The owner of the cafe is a client of Lucas, who sold his life just so he could attain success in his business. Lucas entered the cafe and the owner, Aeron, approached him immediately wearing a big grin. “Well, well, well, to what do I owe the pleasure of your presence here? Name it and you’ll have it!” His smile annoys Lucas, he just can’t fathom humans’ level of stupidity when it comes to their desires.

"Yeah I know. Heard it closed down today, permanently, due to some electrical hazard or something." Layla stared at the list. She had never in her life seen such a diverse and specific order. There were two cappuccinos, one with cream and one with two pumps of caramel, a frappe with goats milk, a strong black coffee, two mochas without sugar, three cafe au laits, two affogates, two double espressos, a flat white and a latte with a heart shaped latte art. She really had her work cut out for her. "Why you staring at the order for," said Carmen. "Hurry up! They'll pick it up by 12 noon."

Aurora said, earning a pinch from Arabella, who glared at her. "They can stay at my house. Your rented house is small, anyway. I'll just call them myself," Arabella teased, making Aurora pout. "Oh, I have a new cafe I've been frequenting this week. It's called DJ Caffe, near our favorite underwear store on Malioboro Street. I guarantee it's recommended, and this time, it's my treat," Aurora explained excitedly.

I recognized the logo from Common Ground Coffee, a small cafe on the other side of the city that we’d gone to since childhood. “I bring libations!” Lila said cheerily. “You still take your coffee black, right?” “I am a simple man, to be sure,” I said, taking the steaming cup from her. “Did you really go all the way out there just to bring me a coffee?” “Well it’s your favorite, isn’t it?” she said, seeming worried that I might say no. “Yes, it is one of the best roasters in the area,” I said, trying to break the tension. “It just wasn’t necessary to go through all that trouble.”

Mike gives me a look. “Shut it,” I tell him. “Come on,” I ask her to follow me towards the corner of the cafe. I usually hang out at the reserved table for me but seeing as the girl could barely move, I thought I’d give her a break. “They have books?” She looks around in awe at the collection of books the cafe has. “Yup, it’s Powell’s. The combination of books and coffee, what’s not to love?” The relaxing atmosphere of the cafe lulls me into a calm I haven’t felt today.

Every part and corner of the exteriors and interiors of this book cafe is aesthetically pleasing. Dave made the right decision to build his own business. Leer Cafe is the biggest and coziest cafe in Feron with a spacious bookshop on the second floor for book lovers. He chose to have his own brand instead of following the footsteps of his father who has successfully established prominence and reputation through SE Group and The Skye Hotel.
