Nicole pov I stared at the floor unable to look at him. I should really learn to control y tongue if I don't wanna lose my job. I waited for him to speak,but he didn't..the silence was making me more uneasy. I slowly glanced up and our eyes met. He was staring at me ,but I couldn't read his facial expression. Mortified, I quickly turn back to the lane we’re supposed to be working on, trying to pretend like nothing happened. As I walk through the rows of grapevines, I suddenly come face to face with Nico. “Hey, Nico,” I say with a nervous smile, hoping he didn’t see what just happened. But who am I kidding? The evidence is all over my face, swollen lips and cheeks flushed redder than tomato sauce. There’s no hiding it. His eyes linger on my face for a moment, and I see something shift in his expression. “Hello, Elara,” he says finally, his tone cool and detached. He turns back to the grapes in his hands, carefully cupping them as he cuts them, making sure they land perfectly in the basket.

He was engrossed with something on his phone, and suddenly I wanted to know what that might be. As I approached, I heard the familiar voices of a trashy reality TV family. “Nico, are you watching the Kardashians?” Nico whipped his pretty blonde head around guiltily. “No. I would never.” If the guilty look didn’t give him away, his blush said it all. I laughed before rolling my eyes. Then I sat on the tiny scrap of a seat next to Nico and made him scoot over so that I could see what was on his phone. His bony ass didn’t want to make room. But begrudgingly he complied.

CARISSA "No one," I lie again, trying to sound nonchalant despite the guilt written all over my face. Nico raises an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Oh, really?" He calmly walks over to me, his hands snug in the pockets of his jogger pants. "Hand over your phone," he requests, his tone firm but controlled. I'm not sure what to do, so I pause. There is no arguing with Nico's expectant stare, though. He looks at my recent call history as I grudgingly give him my phone. "Who's Landon?" he asks in a steady, low voice.

Nico tells me and I do just that. Bringing out my newly gotten iPhone 14 from my pocket, Nico gave it to me this morning, that was quite fast though. I open up my camera, taking a picture of his face and saving it. Smiling to myself, I zoom into his face. His lips were quirked up in a smile, his eyes on the camera. Well, he was looking at me, so let's assume he was looking at the camera. "You're too beautiful to be mine, people might start talking" I say quoting a line from the movie Queen Charlotte.

I beg, my voice breaking. “You’ve got to help me. I know he’s your boss, and you answer to him, but...he is going to let men sleep with me for money…please. He can’t do this.” “He actually can,” Nico says softly, taking a slow drag from his cigarette. That’s when it hits me. That’s why he brought me here. He’s never brought me out in public like this before, not somewhere so important. He brought me here for a reason...to show me that he’s a cold-blooded asshole.

I wasn’t really expecting to see him, he just popped out of the blue, and though I made an effort to pull away and walk away without conversing with him, he grabbed me. I tripod and nearly fell now and he held me. His hand is wrapped around my waist and his face is directly in mine. His every exhale hits only his face and I’m sure mine does on his as well. I don’t know how he is managing to look at my bizarrely scarred face without cringing. I was expecting that reaction from him but he seems very calm.

He wrinkled his nose before swallowing hard and releasing a deep breath. He looked around to see that all his men were watching him. They could not miss any emotion or expression on his face. As his gaze swept across them, they lowered their heads one by one. Just as the awkward silence started getting uncomfortable, a gust of wind came, and a cloaked man appeared. “Who is Nico?” the man asked. “I am,” Nico answered with indifference. He took a few large steps to approach the man and stopped just a few feet away, glaring at him.

Vivian shuffles her color swatches. Nico looks at his phone. Both are clearly trying to avoid each as much as possible, could there something actually going on between these two?
