Soon, the rabbit would no longer blink. Chase shook his head, muttering, “So cruel.” Startled, Harper froze, her face draining of color. Chase found her panic amusing. He smirked. “You get scared too? Guilty conscience?” Harper, still in shock, asked, “How did you get in here?” Chase stood tall, hands behind his back, exuding authority. “I’m a pharmaceutical tycoon, here to inspect your work.” Then he glanced at the rabbit and the chemicals, asking, “What exactly are you doing… sneaking around?”

"Hmm?" When a notification rang inside his head, Sandro Smith had just thrown a banana peel on the ground, the whole fruit already chewed up by his mouth and pushed down his throat. The system's reminder automatically made his head turn to the laboratory's direction. His companion would only give him a buzz if there is danger. Or if Maurice, his beloved target, tried to flee from the operating table. The case was obviously the latter. It opened automatically when I approached, and I stepped inside. The laboratory was massive. Much larger than I had expected. Machines and equipment filled the space, arranged in strategic clusters that suggested different workstations for different types of research. Screens lined the walls, displaying data I could not read. Glass containers held liquids in every color imaginable. The air smelled of metal and chemicals and something vaguely electrical. Vex stood at the center of it all, surrounded by a small crew of assistants in white coats. They were gathered around a large table, and from the looks on their faces, whatever experiment they were running was not going well.

The burly deabru flew back like she Chuck Norrised him. The asphalt shifted beneath her feet and at a glance, it’d been broken down into dark gravel. Before she could think of what that meant, Voss started clapping. “And there we have one verified lab rat,” he said, tossing his cigarette. “Let’s see what else she can do.” With a wave of his hand, the woman rushed Dannie next.
