They were laughing and shouting insults. The hallway instantly became chaotic. People scattered. Some stepped aside. Others pressed themselves against lockers. Everything happened so fast. One of the boys chasing after the cheerleader accidentally slammed his shoulder into another student standing nearby. The student stumbled hard. He tried catching himself. Failed. Then crashed directly into me. I gasped. The force caught me completely off guard. My feet slipped. My balance disappeared instantly. For one horrible second, all I saw was the floor rushing toward me. Sky screamed.

I said. “Hey, boss. Let’s hope your corny dance moves don’t get us embarrassed today,” Olivia said to Poppy, Claudia standing supportively next to her. Queen bee Olivia always called Poppy "boss" in a condescending manner. She had definitely tried to start her very own cheer squad, but the principal didn’t approve of it. She had to remain under Poppy’s command if she wanted to stay on the cheer team, and she wanted to because it was the only way she got to flaunt her flat-as-a-board belly in front of the football team.

I’d shrugged my shoulders too in my bid to downplay the best experience of my life. I hadn’t noticed the hurt look on her face until weeks later, after I replayed the entire night over and over again in my mind. Then, like the fool I really am, I listened to Troy. He’d proposed another truth or dare, and the bottle had, unfortunately, landed on me. Some of the football boys had taken “a break” to sit and watch as they did hand stands, showing off their legs and leaving little to the imagination. Most of the tables were already occupied by rich looking kids some of them typing away at their iPhones, others picking at their food or probably talking about whose Dad was richer or who bought the latest limited edition shoes. Leigh couldn’t stop herself from scoffing. In her opinion, they were highest circle of delinquents. "We're still in the first choreo, yet you're completely missing your part, Abigail. Can you still do it?" I held my breath and looked at Bianca, the cheerleading team leader at our school. It was obvious from her face that she was no longer happy about my countless mistakes. Me too; I don't like it anymore every time I make a mistake. It's tiring to repeat my part over and over again. "I'm sorry, Bianca. I'm just not in the mood today, but I guarantee I won't be like this tomorrow." It tried to sound promising.

Through the small window, I could see them—the cheerleading squad in all their coordinated glory. Okay, I just sat there and stared at them with my blinking eyes because it happened really fast. Are cheerleaders always this snappy? Or do they have super speed abilities just like me? “Ummm, so... you are?” The three of them asked while pointing at me. “Oh, sorry. The name's Blair.” I answered and looked at them one by one, and their smiles were not fading. Aren't they tired of always smiling like that? Maybe it's a cheerleader thing.
