Daria let out a silent sigh. “Yes. The baby in your belly is going to be a full-fledged Lycan. I guess the only heir of our king unless he finds someone else with Lycan blood in their veins.” Daria’s words sounded sad. The Lycan king might be a womanizer, but Daria also understands his loneliness. At least deep in her heart, she hoped for him to be lonely. It would be an acceptable excuse for his current behavior. Searching for a lifelong partner with the vision of never having children must be difficult, even for someone like him.

One of the elders, James, adjusted his robe as he stood up, “Alpha, about the banquet that's coming up tomorrow, we heard you've invited the Lycan king. Don't you think that's dangerous?” Kaiden raised his brows, “What do you mean?” James swallowed and said, “Alpha, you must have heard some rumors about the Lycan king, Lord Duncan. People say he's extremely dangerous, and he has the looks of a demon. They say he kills in seconds, and he's extremely skilled while fighting. His name alone instills fear in the heart of people. Do you want to invite such kind of a person to the banquet? What if everyone gets frightened to death!” his voice was laced with fear as he stared at Kaiden.

My mother looked at my father in disbelief. "It is truly the only way to save our family from exile. We don't have a choice." My father said, his voice ringing with finality. **** "Do you Keira Vale take Callum Wolfe as your mate and Alpha. Do you accept to be his Luna and lead this pack alongside him?" The eldest member of the council, who was officiating the ceremony asked. "I do." I replied as my heart beat loudly in my chest. I could feel his eyes on me. The Lycan King's stare bore into me from his place on the wheelchair but I didn't dare look at him.

It was heavier than it looked, the cover soft and a little sticky with age. It opened plainly enough: Each alpha has a prophecy, and it will always come to pass. Weird, I thought. The kind of line that means nothing until, suddenly, it means everything. I almost put it back right there. I wish I had. I kept reading instead. The Tenth Lycan King will conceive a child with his Luna. The child will be the most powerful and most feared in history. I read it again, slower. Then a third time, waiting for the words to rearrange themselves into something that made more sense, something less impossible.

Natgy said and then a deeper voice took over the following silence. “And that’s where I come in.” The Lycan King rose up from my throne. “Now that the real Alpha Queen is here, I ask you to choose between surrendering and maybe having a chance to be one of my servants, or resisting and suffering my wrath.” The Lycan King said, his voice becoming more stern. A wave of silence swept in as everyone waited on my response. It was a threading question coming from a mighty man with a mighty army. But then I feared no mighty man.

I figured she’d say something like my soul or my life, perhaps my aura, but she asked for Alfred, the twins, and what remained of the old king’s men instead. “Why don’t you just take them?” I asked her. “You don’t need my permission.” “But I do,” she whispered. “With the Lycan King half dead, you are the leader of the Lycans.” She walked around me, her fingers grazing over my hips. “Which means you decide who lives and who dies.” It took me two days, and seeing the pack return from their last battle, all broken bones and gaping wounds, before I could finally say yes.
