Jean shook her head, looking up at the sky. Placing my hand on her shoulder, I squeezed it. I knew this was a touchy subject for her. Her mate, Chris, was a wonderful chef. He was from another pack and moved to ours probably twenty years or so ago. After working a few different restaurants in the area, Chris and Jean opened up Ochoa. It was a higher end restaurant but they kept the prices low by using the local growers of the pack. It was and still is the best restaurant in the whole of the territory.

You went to hire a chef from your favorite restaurant.” Christopher snorted.

Xander grew agitated, his lopsided mouth twitching harder. “I… I don’t need her pity!” “Good. Hold on to that pride.” Chris scooped another spoonful of soup and brought it to his father’s lips. “Take care of yourself. We can only rely on ourselves now.” Mr. Xander swung his arm, knocking the entire bowl of chicken soup out of Chris’s hands. The soup splashed all over Chris. Shaking with rage, Mr. Xander was so furious he couldn’t even get the words out. Mrs. Xander quickly reached for tissues, trying to dab at Chris’s shirt.

He looked at Agatha and Calista in turn. Agatha and Calista exchanged glances, then nodded together. "It's so good! Are you used to cooking by yourself?" Chris smiled widely when he heard that. "Thankfully. It's not that often, but I've cooked for myself a few times when I wanted something to eat." Agatha nodded in understanding. Then the three of them continued their breakfast. Until a few minutes later, the plate that was originally full, was now empty again.

What kind of bodyguard are you?” Chris just groaned, chewing louder like an asshole. I bit into my slice, the taste hitting my tongue, salty, greasy, spicy. Not the kind of food I grew up on, but hell, it was good enough. Junk or not, it filled me.

I'd never been friends with the kitchen right from the genesis. Once I graduated from college, I kept eating at fast-food restaurants until I was financially stable enough to actually get myself a personal chef. It had been that since then, but moving to England made me realize a shit-load of things and one of them was definitely that I had to figure my shit out and learn to do almost everything myself.
