“I know Officer Hendricks is right there, but I don’t want my mom to know what I was doing.” “Sure,” Jake said. His answer seemed automatic, so she looked at him and saw that he hadn’t noticed the police car or her mother at all. He was looking at a red Pontiac Fiero parked in front of Mrs. Schneider’s house. “Whose car is that?” Jake asked. “I dunno,” she said. “I don’t usually notice cars.” “Yeah, but who would visit her? She’s like the actual living embodiment of the Wicked Witch of the West.” Lauren shrugged. “Even the witch had flying monkeys who liked her.”

I carefully put the folder back exactly where I found it and turned off the desk lamp. I quietly opened the study doors and slipped back out into the dark hallway. Squeak. The faint sound of rubber tires on marble made me freeze. I slowly turned my head. Sitting a few feet away in the shadows of the hallway was Jake. He was in his electric wheelchair, his eyes wide as he stared at me coming out of his uncle's private office in the middle of the night.

Miles killed off the engine near a black SUV parked near the entrance. “You don’t have to perform for them,” he said, I could tell he was really worried about me. “Just stay close to me, and be your amazing self.” “I will.” He got out first, came around, and opened my door. Skye jumped down after me, nose already working the new air, she looked cute with her new collar on. Before we reached the front steps, the door opened.

The voice seemed familiar, but I could not place it. “Speaking.” “Leah, it’s Jack. Jack Carter.” “Jack,” I paused for a second, “How are you?” “Always so pleasant. I need to ask you a favour as I know Logan will not ask you.” “Of course.” “I and my wife Chelsea, Logan’s mum, are having a family get together next weekend for his birthday.” “His birthday?” I questioned. “Logan didn’t tell you?” “No!” I was surprised but also not somehow at the same time.

For a split second, our eyes locked, and I felt a cold shiver run down my spine. “You!” I shouted. “It’s over. We know what you’ve done.” The man didn’t respond. He lunged forward instead, faster than I’d anticipated. I barely had time to duck as he swung a knife at me, the blade glinting in the moonlight. He was strong — stronger than any human should be. So he was a werewolf as well. Jake shifted partially, his eyes glowing, claws extending as he launched himself at the man. The sound of snarling filled the room as Jake’s claws ripped through the air, narrowly missing the man’s throat.

Carlos also stood up, followed quickly by Alpha Lemone and Alpha Jeremy. “Enough with the drama,” Carlos said. “This is a business deal. We'll give you guys some time to think it over.” Just before they left though I remembered that Jake's signature was also on the contract. “Wait,” I said. “How are you involved in this? You’re a human.” Jake chuckled. “I buy werewolves,” he said. “Turns out, werewolves make fantastic drug mules.”

I was still in deep thoughts when I heard a male voice. "Hello , I am Jake" he said stretching forth his hand for a handshake. I realised he is the stranger I was admiring earlier. I noticed he was even more handsome than what I saw earlier, he was about 6 feet tall, well built and his six packs stuck out from his shirt. I also discovered he had the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen, short spiky hair which made him look more handsome and his voice sounded like that of an Angel. Well, I haven't seen any Angel in reality but I have seen them in movies.

When he saw the person in front of him, he got so terrified that he immediately bowed and apologized. "I'm sorry, Mr. Xavier. I didn't see you there. Please forgive me for being rude." Clueless and ignorant, Chuck said, "He is nothing but a kept man who gets his money from this woman. He's not a powerful person. Do not fall for his tricks." Hector immediately raised his hand and slapped Chuck across the face without warning. The former scolded, "You shut up. Do you know who he is? This is the heir of the CEO of Ally Productions, Mr. Ethan Xavier!"

The whole situation wasn’t making any sense to me. “ To resuscitate him” my Dad said, as he softly clapped a comforting hand on my shoulder. “ Is he dying” I asked as chill ran down my spine. “ No” a voice answered, “ he will be fine” I turned to the direction of the voice to see Mr. Schuyler standing by the door.“ He has a few broken bones and a collapsed lung but he will recover soon” “ It was me, Jake is in this condition because of me” I slumped on a chair next to him and wiped the tears off my face with my palm “I am such a bad luck. All I do is ruin the life of people around me”.
