“You of all wolves should know that a pack survives through order. One Alpha. One Beta. One Luna.” My last word lingered longer than I intended. Luna. Zahra-Rose. Even her name sent a ripple through my control. Asael noticed. His eyes flickered, jealousy, pain, something else entirely. “Is that what this is about?” he muttered. “The Luna you claimed? The one who was mine before you decided she belonged to you?” A low, dangerous growl rumbled in my chest before I could stop it. The air snapped, thick with Alpha energy. The warriors guarding the door stiffened as my dominance rolled out in waves.

Their Alpha had not just survived, he was leading again. “The Competition resumes.” Boris declared. “And so does your rightful place among the contenders for the crown.” Then for the first time in many moons, Elder Samuel spoke. Filling his head with hate and judgement. He did his task, he took his vengeance which means he is restored as the Alpha. Which means as his mate I am Luna.”

Luna walked forward, naked and unashamed, the old tradition. She stopped at the altar. "I am here," she said. "As summoned." Lyra stepped forward, acting as Speaker. "Luna of Moonshadow," she intoned. "Once rejected. Once risen. Marked by the Moon. Heir to the Gate. You stand before the Council of Alphas to answer for your actions and to hear judgment on your claim." Luna's crescent pulsed. "What claim?" she asked carefully. Marros sneered. "Do not play ignorant," he snapped. "You have taken power beyond any single Alpha. Reshaped leylines. Defeated Selene. Bound gods. You have made yourself *indispensable.* That is a claim, girl. Whether you speak it or not."

One of them says that the Luna has a secret lover besides the Alpha, and that he has already killed him and is only waiting to execute the same judgement on his Luna. The other says that the Alpha has discovered that his Luna has had no child for him yet because she is a witch who kills and murders her babies in the womb to enhance her powers. I feel myself tempted to believe this o
